The cover protects the MacBook Air from surface scratches, and dings. The cover itself gets surface scratches easily, but that's the point, right? The cover is a hardshell cover, so it's smooth and somewhat slippery. I have a MacBook Air 13 with a similar Speck case, but it's got a soft finish that is not slippery, nor does it get surface scratches easily. I prefer the soft case over this hardshell case for that reason. In addition, the soft case seems to be easier to hold and carry. Same sturdy build, same fit and finish, same protection, but the soft case is a better choice between the two.
