I bought this bed from my son for his 10th birthday. He wanted to upgrade from a twin bed that we have only owned for 4 months. I opened this product and to my concern, there were no assembly instructions. My first thought was that I would not have it up by the time my son came home from school. Called the company and within minutes, and I mean literally, they emailed me the instructions. My older son and I put it together without much trouble. I hate building stuff but it came together pretty well. So far my 10 y/o LOVES it, he is so grown up with his new bed.
Great value for your money. This is a Danish product with good assembly instructions. It would help to have 2 people for assembly but I did it alone. Used Site2Store which was really convenient. Arrived in about 10 days. Its a simple and elegant full bed and seems quite sturdy for regular use. The slats are pine wood and seem very strong.
I am impressed by this Danish model: it comes with over 100 bolts, nuts and screws! I took 3 days to assemble it completely on my own (I could have used some help). But once assembled, the expresso bed is nice-looking and sturdy. You can either support your mattress using the slats provided with the bed (see my review on the slats) or use a springbox. In that sense, this bed is kind of versatile.
I was very overwhelmed when I saw that the many parts were not labled and dissapointed that some of the wood pieces were scratched up. After organizing and labeling the parts, which I recommend, assembling the bed took me and a couple friends three hours. The picture directions are sometimes confusing (we had to backtrack once because it was unclear how one of the metal pieces should be attached). My friend had more experience assembling things and he said it was very complicated. After it was completed, I am very happy with it - it seems sturdy and looks great.
While the bed itself was what I expected, I would love for the pieces, ex. sideboards and headboards, to be labeled with the corresponding letters in the directions. Once we got the sides on the right side, it went together well and my 15 yr old loves it.
It has high style and looks great but is so difficult to put together and I put together a lot of furniture. I don't feel confident that the bed will actually hold and that it won't fall apart. I'm using it to stage my home so for that it looks great.
Is not an intuitive build. I question the quality and durability of this design. It does not appear to be mover friendly, I would rather move this assembled then worry about all the little bits that could get lost it disassemble and move this piece. the feet at the foot of the bed are not attached very securely in my opinion. I will most likily find a different frame to attach to the headboard, If and when we move.
The way this thing came together, I'm glad that my mattress doesnt even rest on the frame (I dont use the slats or steel brackets). The assembly is so poor, the hardware was rendered useless because of its weakness, the frame of this bed was the most unstable and weak piece of furniture I ever put together- and I work at a home improvement store building furniture. The wood pieces also had holes drilled in the wrong place- what am i supposed to do with un-usable supports that arent even manufactured properly? i had to call the manufacturer and have a lengthy conversation with an associate to get the many necessary new parts to ensure the bed's stability. it looks great once you get it together, directions are clear, its just very poor construction design.
Was son's birthday and wanted to set bed up as a surprise. Although there was no damage to the outside of box, the inside frame was broke in half and it didn't look like it was from shipping damage, because again there was no damage to box. This ended up to be a late birthday gift, as we have yet to set it up. Waiting for replacement part.
I bought this bed for my teenage son, he and I were excited to get it and put it together. When we unpacked all of the pieces and parts and started puting the bed together I noticed that the parts (side rails, footboards etc...) are not marked as is common with other put-it-together-yourself inexpensive furniture. Well, as it turned out the package for the bed frame was shipped with two identicle side pieces. They are supposed to be mirror images of eachother (so clearly the bed is useless at this point). Also the metal for the sockets that fit into the holes for securing the pieces together is really soft and becomes crossthreaded easily; they are rendered unusable in short order. The next day I tried calling the 800 support number included with the package for spare parts and missing pieces, just to have them inform me that Wal-Mart bought out their remaining beds and they no-longer service this model. I have to say it was a shame because the bed was a very attractive, yet inexpensive piece of furniture. I returned it to my local store with no hassles thankfully.
