This is a great sized dutch oven for cooking a large hen and the veggies that are supposed to go with! The same basting spikes that are in the round DO are also helpful for the oval one. a nice crisp skin and a thoroughly cooked bird cooked happily in its own juices, perfection!
The 7 qt oval cocotte is a great choice because it can hold a lot. It's a perfect size for roasts because of the oval shape and is roomy for big quantities of soups, stews, chilis and casseroles. The black matte interior coating provides superior browning and easy clean up. I just cleaned up mine from a cheesy mess and the cheese literally wiped away easily with soap and a sponge...no worries about "seasoning" the interior it doesn't need to be so you can use soapy water for clean up!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] A wonderful cookware piece that far exceeds anything you can find from a Chinese make manufacturer that most come from. The Grenadine color we purchased is very French looking and really compliments our black granite countertops. This is our second Staub purchase with more to come.
Fantastic product - great looking and great cooking - the first cook was Coq au vin and the searing / browning was done with ease - deglazed and braised all in one vessel. When it's not being used to cook- its a nice display piece with the Staub rooster knob.
Perfect for big family gatherings or holiday meals. So nice to place on the table for presentation so everyone sees how easy it is to cook in Staub's cast iron. Goes well from oven to table and back to frig! The self-basting spikes make for a great meal as it stays moist from the "rainforest" effect.
I have had this product for several years and plan on buying a smaller Staub pot as well. This dutch oven is the very best piece of cookware I own. Whether using it to make a soup, chili, stew, or roast beef or chicken, it never fails to cook it beautifully.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I absolutely love the gorgeous blue. I love how quickly the meat cooked. Very tasty. Easy to clean.
I love this size and I love this shape especially for roasting chickens or baking a boule of sourdough bread. You have enough room to add your vegetables in with the chicken, which is a huge plus. For baking bread the cast iron is perfect because it conducts heat so well, and retains the heat. The spikes under the lid collect moisture and self-baste whatever dish you are baking or roasting in the oven, all while it is cooking, so almost like you have an extra hand! You get to take all the credit though! Bread does come out perfect when baked in a staub and your chickens will come out juicy and golden brown.
Staub is incredibly beautiful with it's pottery-like finish and brilliant colors. It exceeds anything I've ever seen. Grenadine is a rich, deep burgundy that blends in with every table setting. I've owned Staub pieces for over 10 years and I can tell you they are extremely durable both inside and out. Mine have been bumped, dropped and had every type of utensil used in them and they still look almost new. They are truly work horses in my kitchen. The interior is the best feature with a lid with "dimples" that creates a rain forest. You get incredible flavor even with short cooking times. The black interior doesn't stain, craize or scratch and browns beautifully. Roasts, soups, stews or bread come out perfect every time. What could be more perfect for your Sunday family dinner than to serve it in a beautiful pot.
This is the best pot! I love staub! This pot is very versatile, and can easily fit a chicken with room for lots of veggies. I usually use my French oven pot for roasting chicken, but this offers room for more vegetables. We have also been able to cook a Turkey breast in it, with room for stuffing. I can't wait to try cooking coq au vin, and bresole in it!
