I likes the product however it came in a package that ha been opened and the batteries were rattling about. I'm going on the premise that this was a new item and that it works
We recently experienced a leak in the propane gas line leading to our house...a lightning strike arched between the line and a ground stake. It leaked for about a week before we noticed it. It left me concerned to say the least (we did have a very slight Propane odor, but could not find the source at the time). So I bought two of these gas detectors (didn't know they made such a thing...we already had a CO detector). Easy to install given the Propane is denser than air so installing at outlet level is fine.
I was given a First Alert explosive gas detector just like this which activated due to a large leak from a 5 gasoline tank leak under my house. I had no idea it would sound off for gasoline vapors. This detector is much more than a smoke or CO alarm. Without the warning I am sure the water heater would have soon ignited the gas and I would have lost my home and possibly much worse. I bought this new one for our camper. I strongly recommend this to anyone that has any gas, kerosene, LP, or other flammable chemicals in their house or associated storage areas. This detector works!

I was replacing this item with a new one as the old one had reached end of life. I was very pleased with the item during its life and thus replaced it with a new one when the old reached its end of life.
This went up very easily. It has a fairly long extension cord inside which made it easy to hang by the ceiling and plug in closer to the floor. I was pleased with this unit.
This First Alert alarm was a replacement for one that was 6-7 years old that had reached "End" (meaning "end of life") - these devices have a finite lifespan (even with fresh batteries). The new unit was defective and showed "End" on start-up even though it had a manufacturing date of Feb. 2022 (6 months old). I called First Alert customer service and they sent me a replacement unit at no cost (and didn't ask for the defective unit to be shipped back to them). So, 5-Stars for customer service, 1-Star for poor quality control - gave them a 2-Star rating overall. Also, the First Alert customer service Rep. said that the devices have a 10-year lifespan - they must mean 10 years maximum.
i fiund out after the purchase that this first alert carbon monoxide and gas alarm doesnt really work. i should have check the reviews first. thats what I get fir having faith in mankind.
The detector I received was defective. After installing the detector, it began to do a single chirp at a regular interval and displayed “bat” indicating low battery voltage. I replaced the battery with a fresh battery. and the unit still chirped. I then called FirstAlert which was helpful in guiding me through a reset of the unit by unplugging power, removing battery and holding down the test/silence button for 30 seconds. When I put the battery back in the unit and powered it up, the “bat” error message disappeared and a battery icon on the display showed 3 bars. I thought it was fixed, but the very next day the battery icon on the detector was down to 2 bars and we had not lost electrical power. So my unit had some issue that drained the battery quickly while plugged into ac power. Walmart was good at getting me a refund. I'm likely just received a bad unit and other FirstAlert Detectors are probably fine, but I was asked to give a review and couldn't give a good rating for a device not working properly.
