They were comfortable from the first time I put them on
I used to buy non-leather "vegan" boots ... until I backslid into these beauties. These Merrell Ontarios were made the way hiking boots should be made (and used to be made) ... with as few stitches as possible and with real leather. The Duragrip soles are a bonus as they grip well in all conditions. They are truly beautiful!
Patagonia to NYC then crisscrossed America ... an all around amazing boot. Had mine for about a year now and couldn't be happier. Just purchased a pair for one of my hiking partners for the Holidays.
I got these boots for an Alternative Spring Break I was doing. We were doing trail work for a week in wet weather. These boots provided great support. My feet never sore, never wet, nor were they heavy so I never got tired having them on my feet. They were pretty much the only footwear I brought on the trip so I wore them all day every day, even when we weren't on the trail. I wear them around the city too on rainy/snowy days and they're great. Can't recommend these boots enough. I wouldn't necessarily recommend them for backpacking as they don't have a ton of ankle support, but for regular hiking or city walking, they're perfect.
I love the lightness of them. So comfortable. They do feel a bit warm after a while but it's probably because of the waterproofing. I have used these a few times and usually get my feet aches around mile 12. I imagine it being a normal experience. I am learning about my hiking boots. Overall: great!
Comfortable out of the box. I use them for my daily Fitbit 5-mile walks and needed them to support my 75-year old weak ankles. Mine are black and look nice for everyday use. Double-tie the heavyweight laces for a constant cinched-up day.
Light, good support and good traction. Comes with two different color laces.
No break in period. Keeps foot dry and warm. Would buy again and again!
Purchased two pair of Merrell Ontario, one for myself and one for my son, for our trip to Iceland. First four days were hikes in dry weather and everything was great. Fifth day of the trip we went on a five mile hike in light misting rain. Ten minutes in started to feel wet. Thirty minutes in completely soaked. This is not an issue with the tongue or water leaking in through the tongue area. The boots absorbed the water. 100% not waterproof. Unfortunately no way to dry these out at the moment so the next few days we're going to live with wet stinky feet. Sorry Merrell love most of your stuff but this product is not up to your standards.
I've had this boot for roughly six months. Out of the box, these things were very nice and I thought these would be my new favorite hiking boots. The color was nice, the tread was aggressive, and the design was simple. Six months later, and it has not held up to occasional hiking. The first thing to tear were the laces, after maybe 8 or 9 hikes, the laces were tearing where they crossed the eyelets. More frustrating is the way this boot is made/designed, there is a seam along the inside side right where the shoe should naturally bend where your toes do. This seam is not waterproof and does not hold up over time as the stitches will tear. The sole of these shoes is very worn for shoes only worn on trails. One positive of these shoes is that the leather seems to be of good quality, scuffing easily but not showing any deep scratches or cuts. The leather is stained from use, but that was to be expected. Overall I'm beyond disappointed in these shoes.
