My friend told me about Teva hiking sandals about 5 years ago and they have seriously changed my life. I have very high arches and this is my second pair of Tirras. They're so comfortable and run true to size. I bought them in all black (so they would match everything) and I wear them everywhere. They're totally worth every penny!
Oh so loved the Teva Tirra! Being a city girl recently relocated to the country they come in handy on hikes, cliff jumping, working as a lifeguard, or just daily chores around the house and outdoors. I never thought I'd wear an athletic water sandal, but I'm officially converted. So comfy for running around and doing anything whether it be in 8 feet of water or dry ground.
After wearing a Tirra for 10 years through music festivals, hiking, international travel, the soles wore out and I needed a replacement. I thought I'd try a different Teva style, but returned both the Universal and Hurricanes. They just didn't compare to the comfort and support of the Tirra. My only confusion was about sizing. The website here says 'true to size', but my pair from a decade ago is actually one full size bigger than the sizes now. I thought maybe my old pair had 'flattened out' over the years or something, but I asked Teva and they didn't provide a clear answer. Attached picture is new Tirra on left, old on right, both size 8. I ended up returning them for an 8.5 and it fits perfectly now. Teva handled my return quickly and painlessly. Very happy with my new pair.
I love these sandals which have enabled me to be active when I couldn't wear closed toe shoes like I normally would when out and about. They are comfortable and cute. The one minor issue is that despite wearing a large size (women's 11), my feet are not fat/big, so the Velcro straps aren't the right length/positioned right, particularly those at the toes. If I try to tighten them, there is almost not enough Velcro/the strap has a lot of overhang. It's hard to describe but you can see it in the photo.
Within the first month of having these, I noticed the Velcro was separating from the ends of the straps. I love the sandals themselves and they're extremely comfortable, but I am disappointed in the fact that I have to be careful not to pull the Velcro off or make it worse every time I wear these fairly expensive sandals. The rest of the sandal is holding up perfectly fine.
I didn't get a change to wear these on a long walk until after the return window had closed. But I now see issues that I didn't notice when I first tried the shoes on. The Velcro on the straps over the toes doesn't extend far enough up the strap so that I could get the shoes tight enough over my toes to actually keep the shoe snug. So my feet slip around and gravel gets under my toes really easily. And with the ankle strap in place my heel slips of the back of the shoe while I walk.
I have an existing pair of blue Tierra and am very happy with them. The new pair I bought (multicolored beige stripe) fits well but the plastic loop that holds the ankle strap in place slips such that it is vertical to the sole. I am also concerned about the durability of the ankle strap from this "slippage." Time will tell. I am going to bring the sandals to a shoe repair shop to see if they can somehow anchor the plastic ring in place so it doesn't slip. My blue Tierra's do not have this issue.
I have owned a pair of Teva Tirra sandals for several years, so when I ordered another pair online I was sure they would fit and be great. WRONG! The new sandals are almost an inch shorter than the old ones of the same style and size. Sandals should be somewhat longer than the foot meant to be inside them, but the current Teva Tirra sandal in size 11 is exactly the length of the foot meant to wear it according to their own size chart. This means the toes are at the end of the sandal, and thus are exposed to being damaged by everything from steps to furniture. The size 8 (ordered a pair for my grandchild) is almost an inch longer than the length of the foot meant to wear it according to Teva's size chart. The length of a sandal shoe bed made from these materials does not stretch - Teva is making size 11 Tirras SMALLER than they used to, something the company denies. Please note, that Teva does not make the Tirra in a size 11.5 or a size 12. If you can't wear the 11, then you are out of luck. The size 11 is smaller than a size 11 according to the company's own size chart.
I have had TEVA sandals for over 10 years. Unfortunately you dropped the style that has changed over the years, but was basically similar and functioned uniformly for my needs. PLUS it was so comfortable. I could find nothing that was just a tad dressier and what I ordered just wouldn't work.
I have had 3 pairs of these sandals and this last pair had hard bumps on toe edge of shoe. Representative told me this was not normal so I replaced them. Second pair had them too. Really bothered my comfort. Dang! Will look at a store next time.
