This is a great truck period! Well worth the money, and then some! The only negative point I have about it is,it should come with a better (NON AVC) Tx Rx. One of the first things you will want to do is add a onboard kill switch. The Super Bee kill switch is a great choice, but the Spektrum doesn't work well with it. You have to disable the AVC,and use a Y harness to connect it into the steering servo. Then you have to manually press the bind button to kill the motor. The AVC isn't really needed,or even allowed in most races, the truck hooks up well on the track! Losi/Horizon needs to offer a Bind and Run model (without the TX/Rx.) My Tx/Rx that came with it, are just sitting in the storage bin. :(
Love it! Love the noise, love the speed and love the looks it gets. Awesome truck, very tough and well built. Engine is still running strong after over a year of use and abuse. I am not very hard on my RC's but when I am in a bashing mood, this truck will take it and ask for seconds! You want the best, this is it.
Well I was fixing to pull the trigger on a new hpi baja 5scale and put a big bore head kit on it right out of the box, but the I found this bad boy. I could,by believe how strong this truck is. In a side buy side comparison with the hip. So I spent the 1,499 on this truck instead, and I so glad I pick this 5I've t break in was a breeze . After the first half gallon ran throw it I leaned the high speed needle, and put on a Lois tuned pipe on it and wow! Holy carp this truck is loud fast and a blast to drive. It handles like a dream nothing like my t_Max or mgmt 8.0 or my Lois xxx . So first tank after leaning out the high speed needle 3/8 of a turn it got even faster. So took the truck to the lake were I ride my dirt bike. While driving in dirt and hitting 5ft jumps I relies why this truck cost so much . I have nose dived , rolled it, and hit 4 trees head on ,one telephone poll , and ever single time I drove away with miner scratches on the body. Yes the price is steep but I've spent move on my smaller trucks just in broken a arms and hop up so I could drive them with out working all the time. The Lois 5ive t Starts first pull every time I take it out and drive it for 45 minutes straight on one tank gas, that's insane. If you won't a absolute beast of a rc truck this is definitely it. So far I have 5 gallons ran throw mine and it drives as good as the first day I bought it the only money I've put in to this truck in the last years is on gas and 2 spark plugs can't wait to get its little brother the Lois dessert buggy .If it's half as strong as the Lois 5t I'm shore I with be more then happy with that one as well . Ps I haven't driven my others nitro rc trucks in all most a year, just got tired of parts breaking lol my three brittle shelve queens. Lol
Received truck in 2 days, was amazed at the size. Went through easy break in, I already had it flip five times and it landed on wheels and kept on going. I had nitros in the past and this truck puts them to shame. I would have definitely broke something very costly if it had been a nitro truck. Called my order in and salesman was very helpful, I was going to purchase upgrades and he told me for what I was using it for, I didn't really need anything unless I wanted to dress it up. No sales pressure at all, I love honest people. Will continue with horizon hobby for all future purchases. Thanks for a great truck, I did lose my antenna straw and have to buy another one but extremely happy.
I debated for a while on what to buy and did a lot of homework before I bought this truck and man I'll tell you what it is well worth the money. This truck is wicked tough it will take a beating and love it. Losi did it right when they built this the only thing that I wish it came with was a better radio.
By far hands down best rc experience you'll ever have. Ive owned my 5ive since December of 2011 and it is still going strong !starts every time I get it out and I've raced and bashed it but am more of a racer If you ever get the chance to go to a 5th scale race do it ! It is an awesome experience one you'll never forget! Driving these is the next best thing to the real thing
This truck is insanely awesome! I do have an issue though. I was breaking it in..maybe 1/2 tank through and I noticed the center rear driveshaft boot had evidently gotten a rock lodged in it and ripped it to shreds. I bought a new boot but it only came with the driveshaft and grease as a kit for 25$. Since this part is so delicate and exposed, why not sell a pack of 4 boots for 15$ instead of a kit for 25$? I see having 100 driveshafts laying around. Or maybe designing a boot protector?
Purchased this about a month ago. Out of the box it was very easy to get going. You will need some room for this one as it is fast. After the normal new car start up stuff, a little gas and 3 pulls on the rope and it was running. Took it out and with minimal fine tuning on the trims it just went and went. The steering is quick as is the throttle, it slides well into corners and over the jumps with ease. If you are wanting this scale of RC the Losi 5-T is a good one to buy. I am in the process of fine tuning and will be racing this weekend. I would recommend this to all who are interested in the larger scale RC cars......................RT
Well, this is my second one, They are great machines, but like anything in this scale, expensive. Im not saying they break a lot of parts or anything, but youll soon find for the after a few purchases (tires, cups, drivelines, carb, etc) you could of bought another and have a lot of spare stuff. So this one was bought just for spares. Anyway, I think the 5ivet is one of the most well built RC's I have ever seen. Every part on it is of very good quality. Sure they have a few issues all the people talk about, but this is a solid machine! This is my first review ever, thats how cool I think these toys are....lol. Oh yeah, my biggest beef with them is the ugly color, you can Dye the rims, imo they look much better this way, to each his own, see ya.
I have owned the truck since May 2016. I only run it in very well kept grass at a church I belong to. Almost everytime I run a tank of gas, something gets loose which I expect from a high performance Truck. But key parts don't hold up even running it conservatively. This is a list of parts that I had to replace. I replaced the pinion gear (3) times, the Center Diff. Cups, the head gasket (it should be made out of copper not paper. The throttle linkage broke. Had to upgrade the radio to prevent the servos from lifting for the base. I spent well over $250.00 in repair labor. The tuned pipe from Losi is rusting out, so much for the durable coating as advertised. P.S I had to buy upgraded parts from 3rd party stores. P.S. my truck is currently being repair. Just know what to expect when you purchase the truck.
