Widely regarded as two of the most eminent performers in the history of bluegrass, Lester Flatt and Earl Scruggs teamed up with their Foggy Mountain Boys band, and helped to define the shape of country music in the late '50s and early '60s. Coincident with this success, they also headlined a series of television specials entitled Flat & Scruggs' Grand Ole Opry, which showcased their musical performances between 1955 and 1969. The Best of the Flat & Scruggs TV Show compiles the finest of these performances into single volumes; this particular installment pulls its material from specials aired in 1961 and 1962, with numbers including "Down, Down, Down," "Footprints in the Snow," "Sally Goodin," and "Shady Grove." As bonus material, it also features original television commercials for Martha White products including peach pie, corn sticks, and cornbread.
