I have several Eddie Bauer products and they have all been outstanding in warmth and quality. EB is always my first choice in outdoor clothing. This jacket is the same, the only thing I would change on this jacket is that the hood is very small, but then again, how often will I even use it? I would just prefer one that would fit well over a ball cap or beanie and add some rain protection. But it is a minimal issue.
I'm 6-foot and 260lbs. I got the XXL size and its more then roomy. I know the XL would have been too snug, especially with layers but the 2X seems perfect. Maybe a little too roomy when I don't have a sweatshirt under it. It really does stop the wind. I wore it over a polo shirt on a day hike. At the top of a blustery ridgeline I couldn't feel the wind at all! Most impressive consider the whole jacket weighs less than a pound. I've had this jacket for a couple weeks this fall and its been great at the 40+ degree range. I feel like it might not be warm enough for lengthy time outdoors once winter hits and the temps are in the teens and low 20s although, with a sweatshirt underneath it feels like it will be great for shoveling or playing with the kids in the snow (eg, moderate activity)
The jacket is super light weight and comfortable. It's warm...not sure it's as warm as they rate it...but with moderate activity I feel like it would be good in the 30s. U wish the zipper was a little more windproof (the jacket is but the zipper let's some wind in). It does feel like it would tear easily but I'm not sure a light weight jacket could be light and not tear easily.
Had purchased same one in large without hood last year for son. Decided he wanted slightly larger one to fit sweater underneath. Got an XL and it seems too big but he loves it. Large might have worked??
I bought this for my husband because I love mine so much. He's not the kind no of guy who loves anything he wears, but he likes it. It's comfortable. Very light weight. Keeps you plenty warm if you're moving. I love how snug the hood is around my face. Much better than a hat.
Great jacket for being active when its cold out. I primarily use it for bike commuting when it is cold but plan to use it for some winter hikes this year as well. Very light and pack-able, tall size is great for me.
I bought this for travel and biking. It's a really nice jacket. It's warm enough down to 0C / 32F with 1-2 layers below. The wind does not get through. It's easy to put in its own pocket which is super useful for packing. Wearing it inside out improves visibility when biking in the dark.
I have worn it snowshoeing and light jogging or even walking in 20-40 degree weather during medium activity and it was surprisingly comfortable and light. It also kept me extremely dry during a medium rainstorm. Would not wear it for activities if temperature is above 40 degrees F
Overall this is a good jacket. It's quite warm for its weight and for its packed size. Normally I find "reversible" jackets to be a gimmick, but the orange interior of the "Storm" color might actually be useful in a rescue scenario, or when one unexpectedly finds oneself dowrange from hunters. Large size is slightly loose for 6'0", 165 lbs. Just loose enough for an underlayer. My one complaint is that the hood has no adjustment. It does not fit me very well and obstructs my vision. A workaround is to wear a baseball cap under it, but that's not always available. My other First Ascent jacket does have a hood adjustment, and I assumed this one would as well. One possibility is that it was deliberately omitted due to being reversible, but it could have been included and at least been usable for one side. I have worn it in colder weather but not in the wet stuff, so I can't comment on its waterproofing.
Body on the tall L was great, sleeves were too long, usually a 36-37 length in dress shirts. It would have been fine, except, the elastic at the wrist was so wide and loose it couldn't be cinched up at the wrists. Just because a person is tall doesn't mean they have fat wrists.
