I just made my first fresh pasta. The pictures show the results, but don't explain how EASY this attachment was to use. Drop in walnut sized dough balls and out comes perfect fusilli. It made so much from 2 c of flour that I almost ran out of room. Excellent purchase. Tak
The Gourmet Pasta Press Is a perfect Kitchen Aid tool to make fresh pasta. It's as easy as 1-2-3. The dough (which was too dry and crumbly per recipe instructions, so we slowly added small amounts of water until the dough resembled "play dough" consistency) is made in the bowl of your Kitchen Aid mixer with the dough hook and the Pasta Press is attached to the mixer to process the dough into the pasta form of your choice. Our initial batch of Rigatoni was perfect and tasty! This machine is not fast, but it gets the job done very well. The built in pasta cutter is perfect for cutting pasta in your desired length. We placed plastic trays lined with wax paper on the counter directly under the pasta press, so when we cut the pasta it landed on the tray. We had employed three inter-changeable trays, so we could separate the pasta in single layers for cooking later or drying and storing. First clean-up was a challenge, as there are press pieces that can be wash and some press pieces should not be washed. We figured that out with a learning curve of hands on maintenance. Next time will be better. The Pasta press was well worth the investment. We hope to have fun making pasta as a family project and enjoy all those Italian meals together.
Very easy to use and works well (even though the final shape is far from industrial pasta), way easier to use than the one that does lasagna or spaghetti that we bought last year.
I got this as a gift from my kids. I immediately used it with my own buckwheat pasta dough. I've had and hated other pasta extruders, but this one is fabulous. It's slow but steady, worked without overheating for about 40 minutes on very hard dough ( the machine won't tolerate soft or damp pasta dough) Easy to figure out, beautiful results. It isn't perfect - the fusilli needs twisting, spaghetti takes less time on an Atlas crank roller attachment. Cleaning is difficult. Still - bucatini! macaroni! fusilli! I'm in pasta heaven.
But our pasta maker we were thrilled. I love the consistency and the ease of use. We use the KitchenAid to mix up the dough (used Semolina flour), rolled the dough the size of a walnut, and the pasta easily passed through. It was a little sticky, so we need to practice. This is a game changer for making homemade pasta. I make my pasta using fresh milled flour and I really wanted to be able to make macaroni noodles. I did have a bit of trial and error with this but once I got my pasta dough to the right consistency it works great. If you are struggling getting your pasta to come out right with this then I would bet its your recipe. You need your dough to be pretty dry for this to work properly. You might try using one less egg or a bit less flour. Also make sure you make pretty small balls and feed it slowly like like the instructions say. I like to make mine a little smaller than walnut size. I have used almost all of the discs at this point and I honestly love them all. I have gotten to prefer this over my pasta roller and cutter attachment.
I have had this machine for a few years and used it for the first time with great success! Used the kitchen aid recipe to make the spaghetti thought it was dry and added olive oil to make it work. For the rigatoni's I used my own recipe and it was perfect!
I am a homemade pasta fanatic and being Italian and growing up always eating homemade pasta this product is great! Once you get the right consistency ( only took me two tries to get it right) of dough the pasta is amazing when cooked it's tender yet has a little bite and nothing compares to it! I only wish there were more pasta shape options! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
bought this item new and it cme obviously used. dried dough around it and scratches
Got the pasta attachment for Christmas. Used it 3 times and brought it back. All 3 times, the attachment was properly installed with knob tighten to hold it in position but the attachment would pop out and turn around and around spilling pasta all over the place and also hitting me in the face as I was putting pasta in the hopper! It broke a piece off of my kitchen aid mixer which I am not happy about! For this reason, I do not recommend this attachment!
