Dishwand Cleans & Scrubs!

I recently received a Scotch-Brite Scrub Dots Heavy Duty Dishwand to try out its kitchen cleaning ability. Scotch-Brite is a well established brand name that manufactures quality products with affordable prices. I have used their sponges for many years and have found them to be superior to much of their competition. The dishwand is made of a very light transparent plastic but has a sturdy feel to it. The transparent handle lets you know when to add more dish soap. Detergent is added through a screw cap port at the end of the handle and a rubber pump button helps disperse the soap into the sponge abrasive cleaning surface. The version I received was the Heavy Duty pad that to the touch, felt deceptively soft and somewhat non-abrasive. I gave it a test on a frying pan that had months of baked on grease residue. It worked surprisingly well on this pan. It removed probably 95% of the grease residue with only the thickest areas still remaining after my first cleaning. The dishwand fit well into my glasses and tumblers where my hand is a little too big to reach. Overall it did a great job on everything I tried, but I would probably recommend the Extreme Scrub version for pots and pans with baked on grease residue.  Refill heads are available in Heavy Duty, Non-Scratch, Stay Clean, Greener Clean and Extreme Scrub versions. The Scotch-Brite Scrub Dots Heavy Duty Dishwand did a great job on just about every piece of kitchenware I tested it on, and I think you will find this tool a welcome addition to your kitchen cleaning routine. I plan to use it daily.

I'm reviewing the Scotch-Brite Scrub Dots Heavy Duty Dishwand, I just love this wand first fill with dish soap it holds maybe a few ounces of soap and it's easy to see when it needs to be refilled because it's clear, there is a small button which you have to pump a few times to push on to the sponge add water and it's soapy. The sponge can be replaced when needed. I am so happy with this wand it cleans everything easily from glasses to pots and pans it fits into the corners because of the triangle shape. One of the only things I would like to see them have on it is on the handle it needs some sort of grip because when it gets soapy it gets slippery and is a little hard to keep a grip on it, but that wouldn't stop me from buying it again. I have read people had a problem with leaking and the sponge coming off but I haven't had either of those problems. I have owned the wand for a little over a month and I haven't needed to add any more soap and I use it almost every day. Do yourself a favor go buy on you'll love it.

Great All Around Scrubber

This scrubber is wonderful. Not only does it have the nubs on it making it a 'scratcher' for foods that are more hardened on the dishes and glasses, you can put the soap right in the handle and theres a little hole where it comes out into the sponge. and speaking of the sponge, it is changeable so you can use both types of sponges with the same wand and not have to replace the wand when the sponge wears out. This would work great for doing windows too whether you use soap or just window cleaning solution. Of course the solution will come out faster so you would need to take care with how you hold it angle wise. The sponge is shaped to get in the corners of your square pans and baking dishes as well as the square shaped coffee mugs that some people have. Being a recycler, I use it in the cans and jars as well. I would use it in the plastic items as well if we were still allowed to recycle them. Using them in the cans, your not in danger of getting cut on any of the sharp edges and you aren't having to use a fork or the like to get into the bottoms to get the food out. For the jars, it works great, especially when you have ones that have small mouths and you can't get you hand in them without a lot of pain. This wand would be great for using on canning jars at any time during, after or before their use. Many people either don't have, want or use dishwashers so having this tool will save the person doing the washing up not only soap but work. I have even thought about getting one of these to use in the shower while showering to clean the walls and doors so as to save time and harder work later. These would even work great on cleaning flower pots. I'm sure there are lots more ways this tool can be used that I haven't thought of.

This Scotch-Brite Scrub Dots Heavy Duty Dishwand is a neat idea. It's made by the 3M Company so right away I knew it would be a good deal for my kitchen. The wand is made of heavy duty plastic which you open and pour your dishwashing liquid into it. Then you use the white pump button on the top of the wand to dispense the soap. The tag gives you instructions on how to remove the pad to insert a new one. Seeing that the tag also instructs you that the cleaning pad may scratch I used it on a skillet that has the Teflon coating and it didn't scratch. I suggest you not use it on stainless steel cookware. I made gravy for dinner and wasted some on the stove so I used it on that too and it worked perfectly. The pad has little scrubbing dots that do a pretty good job. I would say to save the tag in a kitchen drawer until you get the hang of changing them. Also store the wand in an upright position to avoid leakage. The only problem I ran into is getting all the paper from the tag out of the wand itself. I recommend this little scrubber.

I haven't used a scrubber before that you can fill with soap. I tried half detergent and half water to fill the reservoir. It all leaked out in one dishwashing session. Using pure dish soap fared a little better, but created too much foam. The scrub pad works well for flat surfaces, not so well for cups or glasses though. I might try the non-scratch wand for my bathroom tile.

I had high hopes for this product, but it fell somewhat short. This is a wand with a soap dispensing handle which can be refilled with your favorite dish washing liquid. The feature I was most interested in was the scrub dot pad. The regular soft scrub pads really work well, but they capture food and grease. You cannot get them clean, so they sit around the sink just looking gross. The scrub dots are made of the same material, but will allow you to clean the pads of debris. Unfortunately, the scrub dots are simply not as effective at cleaning as the scrub pads. The product is handy to use, and the soap dispenser feature is nifty, I just wish the scrub dots were more aggressive.

Good Idea - Bad Design

We where happy to try this Scotch-Brite Srub Dots Dishwand since we had never used a dishwand before. It does have a easy to grip handle, filling it is very simple and it does not leak. The problem we encountered is with the soap delivery to the sponge and the attachment of the sponge to the handle. The handle has a button on the top side that you push to dispense soap onto the sponge, however the soap comes out the outer side of the base of the handle where the sponge attaches and not directly into the sponge. It took quite a few "pumps" to get the soap into the sponge to start doing its job. The next issue that we ran into is the sponge itself is held onto the handle by a very small tab clip on the back that simply does not hold the sponge on the handle very well at all as you can see in one of our pictures. While washing dishes or cups the sponge will simply slide off the handle which becomes annoying having to reattach it over and over. Each time we make sure that the clip is securely in place but it makes no difference. The design of the tab clip that holds the sponge on simply needs to be longer or stronger to do the job. Its a great idea and we love the Scrub Dots scrub sponges but it does need some improvement before we would recommend this product to anyone.

Pro: - Avoid Dish Soap To Spoil - Great for flat and large surfaces like plates Con: - Not practical for pans and casseroles because the plastic in front might touch and scratch the corners - Have to hold it upward otherwise dish soap might spill out (even though slowly), I suggest something to hang it - Can't be used or not convenient to clean small things like small cups, forks, spoons - Need To Press Button Many Times To Dispense Soap And Button Hard To Press - Can't “Feel” What I Clean: When some food leftovers dry up and are hard to clean, this dishwand doesn't let me know if the leftovers have been removed while regular scrubs let me “feel” the dry food bumps or any oily parts The best solution is to use both depending on the need but for sure I will use my scrub much more often than this dishwand.

LEAKS in a big way.

I was disappointed to find this leaks as bad as the budget brands do. I tried, unsuccessfully, to find a way to store it between uses that didn't cause leaking. After making sure the endcap was tightly closed I stood it on end. It leaked. I stood it upright on its sponge end. It leaked. A lot! It leaked out more than half the dish soap in minutes. I tried laying it on its side. It leaked both ends. As for the scrubbing dots? I like them. The dots cleaned the remnants of scorched oatmeal in my stainless steel saucepan so I didn't have to pull out my SOS pad. The dried on egg in my ceramic nonstick frypan came out easily (food does stick in this pan) and didn't cause scratching that I could see. I so hoped this would be a product I would buy in the future, but its not. I wish I could reccomend it, but I can't.
