thank you! this came early!
My wife and I have not owned an electric can opener in about 30 years. The main reasons are that 1) they take up too much counter space because they are usually too large, 2) they are hard to keep clean, and 3) they don't accept tall cans. We decided we would just keep buying the hand-held manual can openers. Then we saw this Hamilton Beach Extra Tall Can Opener. First of all its footprint is about the same as a regular-sized can of vegetables. It is taller than conventional electric can openers, but that's the beauty. It will handle the tall cans like the Tomato Sauces, the Gumbo Bases, the Yams, and anything else you throw at it. It also has a couple of extras. First it has a built-in, crown bottle top opener which you can use on the metal bottle tops on things like long-neck beers and soft drinks. No more twisting those things off. Secondly, it has a built-in knife sharpener. Now I grew up working in a family meat business and I am a certified butcher. Therefore, I know what a sharp knife is and how to make a knife sharp. I always shied away from knife sharpeners on can openers. But I was impressed when I used this one. It produced a pretty good edge on a knife. Finally, this can opener is pretty good looking. Black and Silver, sleek design, easy to wipe down, and yes, the whole blade mechanism rotates right out for easy cleaning in the sink or dishwasher. We are very satisfied with our first electric can opener in over 30 years, and no more turning the crank on a manual opener. We highly recommend this product and think you would like it too. The first thing you notice when you operate the Can Opener is the amount of power in it's motor to do the job. This model Can Opener has some extra features-a built-in knife sharpener and a removable bottlecap opener in its base. I don't know how many times when I needed a bottlecap opener that I have to search and open every drawer to find one. Now I know where my bottle cap opener is and it is most accessible. I love that it's taller and can open bigger cans. Do have to be careful when opening an can that have liquid or sauce in it, it will splash you. I like the knife sharper on the back. I've used it and it works well. It even has a bottle opener. Didn't think I would use it but I have. I liked I didn't have to find it in a drawer. It attaches to the can opener and I'll always know where it's at. Parts come off very easily to wash too. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
When I got this, I was very happy that it was from Hamilton Beach, as I have not been disappointed when I have gotten one of their dependable products. It opens those tall pasta cans and keeps my knives sharp. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
I am so happy with my new Hamilton Beach Extra Tall Can Opener. This particular can opener has a very nice and attractive design. The color matches my other kitchen appliances very well. Thankfully I am now able to open the taller family sized canned goods. The motor runs very smooth and a magnetic lid holder catches the lid for a quick and clean disposal. This model has a convenient pull out bottle opener and a knife sharpener. The attached knife sharpener did a pretty decent job of sharpening. Time will tell how long the sharpener holds up. I feel that this would be a perfect house warming gift. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
When I received this can opener I noticed how nice looking it was! I have only used it a handful of times, but it works great! The only issue that I had with this is that it was difficult at first to get the can positioned just right for the blade to cut open the top. But after a couple of times I got the hang of it! The one thing I would like to have seen differently on this can opener was that the magnetic arm that holds the can lid stay up. When you remove the can after it has been opened the arm that holds the lid stays down and doesn't raise up out of the way. I think it would make it easier to use if the arm would stay in a raised position rather than fall down. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
I wanted to give this opener a good use before I did a review. Had some that were great the first week and then quit working. This is a loud opener, which isn't a problem for me. I really am pleased with the power of this opener. It runs very smooth and gives a good and clean opened can. No tearing of the label or jagged cut edges. I do wish there was a little more weight in the base. You need to make sure you're larger cans don't tip the opener over. It looks good on my counter, and this is a product I would buy. i have a 76607 which is excellent can opener. i like the safe lid remover and it works on all cans. the test can opener 76510 is a fraction taller. the cord storage section is easier to use. i prefer the bottle opener to the scissor. i do not like removing sharp can lids when i can remove the can top on my model without sharp edges. if you want a basic can opener, this it. I have tried to use this opener a couple of times but have not been able to get the opener to accept the can. It took my husband several times before he could do it. I also find directions not entirely helpful. I really wanted to like this but each time ended up getting my crank opener out to finish the job. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
