We have a bunch of these containers, and are happy overall. Tonight, however, while hand drying one of the 5-cup storage containers, it cracked in two places
There are some great features to these containers: stain resistant, locking lids, stack well. However, as others have stated, they seem to crack from dishwasher usage. We don't use heat when drying, but something seems to break down the plastic which they are made from. For the price, I would expect them to be sturdier.
We bought our set at Costco a little less than a year ago. Love the appearance and they are certainly easy to use. Pretty much the entire set has been in constant use since purchased, however a few weeks ago we began to notice a plastic film like substance that appeared to be pealing off the interior of almost all of the containers causing us to be somewhat reluctant to continue using them. Furthermore, we saved some (tomato) pasta sauce in one, and now have an orange stained container. The "stain resistant" quality was one of the biggest reasons we bought these .... I have to say, now somewhat disappointed.
Not sure if these are designed with planned obsolescence, but my set I bought at Costco, I have 1 3cup and 1 5 cup that started cracking on the sides and bottom just outside of the warranty period. Never had a Rubbermaid product that didn't last at least 3 years or more, including the thin cheap containers you can buy at the grocery store. Disappointed and will have to go with Tupperware for the nice containers going forward.
I have a lot of Rubbermaid storage containers and most are the standard plastic which just seems to slowly discolor from scratches and stains over the years but the harder plastic of my 9 cup large storage container is forming lots of little cracks around the bottom edge like plastic gets when left out in the sun. I purchased this one specifically for storing leftovers with tomatoes and don't use it for anything else. Unless this harder plastic formula is changed I would stick with the standard and just live with the stains as these don't seem to break. P.S. mine has the curly-Q pattern on it if that makes any difference.
The lids are all in excellent condition but almost all of the dishes themselves have developed large cracks. I haven't experienced this with other food storage products so it is obviously disappointing. Some of the plastic has also developed what appear to be melted areas and bubbling. All I've used these for is microwaving and refrigerator storage and I clean them in the dishwasher, all of which are supposed to be approved uses. At no point have they been dropped or mistreated.
I love my Rubbermaid products but am severely disappointed in the premier collection. I have bought 6 of the 9cup/2.1L red lid contsiners for food storage and 4 of the 14cup/ size. Of my 6 9cup contsiners, 4 have cracks in them. This has never happened to me before. Very disappointed
model FG7H78 and others. Stain resisted yes, but what good is that if it develops cracks and leaks as mine has within the first year. Also noted this problem from another reviewer that also purchased this set from Costco. This is now two sets (including orig premier 1st generation) into the trash. No more for me! It will be glass containers from now on. And not necessarily Rubbermaid.
On my 2nd set (item# 628720) after 9 months. The first set developed cracks, chips and finally crumbled to pieces. I always hand wash and reheat via microwave. Just opened my 2nd set and notice right away that two of the 1 cups came from the manufacturer with defects. I am so upset that I might have to travel back to the store in hope for a replacement set. My time is valuable.
I was given 3 sets of the Premier Food Storage sets. EVERY SINGLE bowl is cracking, spliting and you cant really even use the bowls now cause everything leaks out. The lid seal is EXCELLENT, I was so excited to finally have great looking bowls that didnt stain or hold odors. But the sets I have arent even a year old and they are failing. I loved the sets I got so much that I went out and bought another set (for a total of 4 sets) to have in my RV. Now I am sorry I wasted my money. Looks like I will have to dig out all the old Tupperware that I put in the garage for my garage sale this summer. :( In the photo I included you can see by the red arrows the cracks and hairline splits that cause the bowls to leak...
