I have only ever had cheap washers with 3 or so basic operating functions. And I decided to treat myself to something special, and went for the one with features I would use. And I will NEVER know how I EVER lived without the bells and whistles!! Sure, they were a lot of money, but they looked and felt like quality machines so I took them home! We have 3 kids, two teens and a tween, and we have mega laundry. So I wanted a huge capacity washer and dryer. GE does not disappoint!! I am 5'6 female and I can barely touch the bottom of the washer drum! It's epically HUGE!! I love it! Inside is stainless steel, and that is important to the quality not only of the craftsmanship, but it's ease of cleaning(I.e. no soap scum build up and hard water won't corrode it as much as plastic). I also like that it has a drain and spin function! My old washers only ever has RINSE and spin, but if the items, like big blankets and coats, are not dry enough, I can set them back on just spin! I love the automatic soap dispenser! It actually auto adds the right amount of soap for the load size. Not only that, they went an extra step and made it so I can choose the amount of soap too! Now THAT's an extra, and I love it! I could really go on and on about the set, but I bore you, I'm sure! Bottom line, I feel SO SPOILED with this GE washer and dryer, that I actually ENJOY doing the laundry! It's such a breeze!! Not to mention the HELPFULNESS OF THE WIFI!!! I can text my kids when the washer and dryer are done so we can get more loads done in a shorter amount of time, but I can also track what days we are doing the most laundry on so I can set up the sprinkler system and water softener to NOT go on during those peek hours!! How did I ever live without all the features?!! I love you GE! Keep up the great work!
Our laundry area is very narrow and when looking for a replacement for our old front loader washer / dryer set, I noticed that most sets with large capacity wouldn't fit in my laundry area. When I found this set I wasn't sure about getting a top loader because in previous experiences, they get unbalanced often and vibrated a lot, but we decided for this set because of all the features and it's large capacity. So far my new washer and dryer set are working great!! My favorite features are the self soap dispenser and to receive phone notifications when clothes are ready or when they have been sitting in the washer for long time.
I love this washer. Fits my comforter in easily. Gets my clothes cleaner then my last washer by far. Just one flaw I've found, it's very deep. I bought this online and forgot about measuring height. I did width and depth as I have a limited space that way. I need a grabber to get the stuff at the bottom. I'm good with that. Just wouldn't recommend for my five foot if you stretch her friend.
I am so dissapointed because i really like the machine and the smart dispense feature however, a few dislikes that are pretty serious to me, first of all, the machine never even spins after the wash cycle so your clothes that are sopping wet with soap residue just sit there, after draining wash water it just fills right up with water and agitates for not even 60 seconds before it drains again and goes into final spin, ive tried all other cycles and they all do the same, even if i select extra rinse and warm rinse it just adds another drain and fill phase witho no spin in between, which brings me to my next gripe with this machine is it gets off balance so easy then it wants to add water agitate and try again making the cycle even longer, (so much for saving water) and the spin cycle is very loud and the machine vibrates (yes my machine is perfectly level and on concrete) i should note that i had the gtw860 before this and i worked great, was quiet and spun between wash and rinse, why GE would discontinue the gtw860 to make this gtw840 is beyond me, a product is supposed to get better not worse. I am seriously thinking about returning the set back to the store and go with a korian brand
I really really really want to love this. But the dang thing won't balance, so all of my laundry is soaking wet EVERY SINGLE LOAD. I'm only 5' 4" so getting to the bottom of this thing for heavy wet blankets or jeans is an absolute disaster. Everything else is great. Wi-Fi works perfectly. Auto dispense is great. It's energy and time efficient until I have to run another drain & spin cycle.
We purchased this washer (along with matching GE dryer model# GTD84ECSN0WS) since we trusted the GE name as a quality product and wanted a machine that could handls larger loads and even a comforter periodically. The dryer has been fine, but as nice as we hoped the washer to be, it has a serious balancing issue when trying to spin. When it runs, it goes through the wash cycle just fine and does a great job, however it constantly goes out of balance during the spin cycle. Small or large loads, it doesn't matter and we are definitely not overloading it. At least 50% of wash loads, we are experiencing this issue, and this is with regular loads of wash that we typically ran in our 15-20 year old machine that we replaced, that was a lower capacity machine. The machine is still like new and hasn't had a lot of use, so we are a bit beside ourselves, especially considering all the features this machine offers and here we are having problems with something as basic as spin balancing. Sadly, we're forced to constantly reshuffle and/or remove laundry from the machine to complete the wash cycle. I seriously hope GE reads these reviews and reaches out to assist in resolving this. It seems like this could be a great machine, but this spin balancing issue is becoming a show stopper...
I can't trust any of these positive reviews for the simple fact that anyone who uses this washer (unless they wash 4 small-practically clean items of clothing at a time) would know that it does not wash even a lightly soiled load well. I have to wash my clothes a minimum of two times JUST to get a somewhat satisfactory clean load of laundry. Forget it if you have anything that is really dirty like a gym shirt or a bath mat! First of all, the washer does NOT balance, and this is with trying to wash 4-5 bath towels that are ALL THE SAME SIZE! The washer will knock in the spin cycle and become unbalanced and so it will essentially restart, adding MORE water to try to balance! It is merely luck if it doesn't continued this attempt 4 or 5 times of filling the tank with water and then trying to balance on an endless loop or will finish with a completely soaked load! So much for efficiency! Forget about trying to finish a laundry load before bed! You will be woken by loud knocking and you will become frustrated trying to rearrange the load only to become unbalanced again!! You then have to pull each piece of the laundry out and rebalance. This doesn't insure that it will balance! It absolutely will become unbalanced and there really is no trick to fix it otherwise! This has got to be the most frustrating, poorly designed, washer AND dryer I have ever used! Oh, not to mention if there is ANY lint or hair on your clothing it will NOT take it off by washing in any setting. Even if it's a few items. All laundry comes out looking slightly worse or the same than when you put it in!! Save yourself the anger and frustration and DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT!! Just today it took me over 3 hours to “finish” 3 small loads of laundry and they're still not clean and had to wring out individually when I got tired of trying to get the washer to do its job! . Shame on GE for trying to pass this product to consumers! I wouldn't take this washer and dryer for FREE!
Since I've got this washer I have had nothing but trouble out of it it has only been the control panel but it will just stop working for no reason flashes and clicking sounds other than that when it does work it's an excellent washing machine but I would not recommend anything digital ever again and I will not buy anything digital ever again
We had this machine for 2 years and it has been staining all of our clothes with a dark grayish black mark. Also the drum continuously go off balance when washing comforters or towels... I do not recommend this washer
I've had this washing machine for 2.5 years now. 2.5 years of it making me more mad than probably anything else in my life. It NEVER balances correctly, even though all directions and troubleshooting methods have been followed to achieve perfect level. I end up having to try to redistribute the clothing in the drum myself to get it to spin, otherwise, all items are dripping/saturated wet and heavy. I just redistributed a whole load of towels because it won't spin and the washer literally just filled it up with even more water and tried to do it on its own again, which it failed. I hate this washing machine so much, I just feel stuck. I paid good money for this and I don't have money to just go out and get another one. I'm so upset. I've read other people have this problem with balancing too. Also, don't count on the automatic soap dispenser to dispense any soap. My clothes barely even come clean. Hard no on recommending anyone buying this tragedy of a washer.
