Two of the screen's greatest lovers are brought together in this beautiful rendering of Robert Hichens' classic novel, "The Garden of Allah". David O. Selznick's lavish production won its two cameramen a special Academy Award for their breathtaking Technicolor photography. Domini Enfilden's (Marlene Dietrich) life has been spent caring for her aging father. Upon his death she decides to make a new life for herself, and travels to Algeria. En route she meets Boris Androvsky (Charles Boyer), a strangely sorrowful man who is rude to her. Domini doesn't know that Boris is really Brother Antoini, a monk who has fled a nearby monastery after taking his vows, causing shock and dismay among his brothers. One night, some friends take Domini to a nightclub where a near-riot occurs, and Boris, as fate would have it, is there to save her life. With this fresh start, they develop a friendship that grows into love. Their friend Father Roubier marries them, and they depart for a desert honeymoon. But it's not long before Domini learns her new husband's secret. Now, despite their great love, they must decide weather Boris should return to the monastery to fulfill his oath and say goodbye to Domini forever.
