Beautiful, sturdy, portable, but large enough for family cooking. I have just started using it, but I am really enjoying this size compared to my larger 7qt pot. I think I will end up using this more often for smaller batches of food. I am looking forward to deep frying and baking bread in this cutie! The knob is slightly champagne, whereas my other Staub is pure silver. It's so charming!
This pan was a surprise gift that came out of the blue. Turns out it's something I didn't know I needed and now I totally love it. This sort of cooking is better suited to the winter months but I turned on the AC and kept going. So far, I've made two roasted chicken dishes and an onion soup. The 4-quart size has been large enough - at least so far. Can roast a whole (medium sized) chicken. Looking forward to winter stews in about 6 months. Until then, I'll focus on soups and the occasional roasted chicken and vegetables.
I bought this first, then I went on a spree replacing family pots from 1975. I bought five/six? in the end, from Staub and from Le Creuset, depending on what I wanted. I bought an Oval 7 qt, a pot with a wooden handle, and two different items with grill lines on the bottom. A long one for fish, and a round one. Two with wood handles: a 2 qt pot and a flat one for crepes, tortillas, grilling, etc.
After seeing multiple recipes for no-knead bread baked in a cast iron Dutch oven, I became intrigued with the concept. Staub products are definitely an investment, so I did a bit of research on the internet. This brand was compared to its two main contenders - one, also produced in France, and an iconic and much less expensive US brand which I rejected when I discovered that their enameled cast iron line was produced in China. After reading all of the reviews and specs, I concluded that Staub was the best choice all around. I was pleasantly surprised to discover that a discount on the purchase price as well as a promotional offer for complementary decorative knob was being offered on the ZWILLING J.A. Henckels website. This is a beautiful piece of cookware and I am thrilled with the quality, appearance and performance. I baked the above-noted bread in it the day after it arrived and another version of the recipe a few days later. All I can say is, "Wow!" I am an old school bread maker and these loaves rivaled any that I have ever made using traditional methods. This cocotte will now be my go-to for baking, roasting, and braising.
This Staub Dutch oven offered on Walmart site is the most deep discount for a Staub product I could ever find! I have wanted one for years but it was cost prohibitive. Over the years, my non-branded enameled cast iron pots enamel thinned and cracked causing food to stick so was time for a new one. Staub is made in France with highest manufacturing standards and guaranteed quality. Am very impressed with it! Next I will check website in future to see if i can fine a Staub enameled cast iron skillet i can afford.
The lid is heavy and chipped the enamel rather deep during shipping and handling I assume. I’m not sure how to repair it. I use it because it doesn’t occur to be in contact with the steam from my cooking. It works great on my electric stove top, thank goodness. Other than the cosmetic damage, I really love how this cooks (and I cook with Kangen water). I really love the nutrient rich aroma drip design of that a Staub offers. Highly recommend. Very valuable kitchen essential.
i adore cooking with Staub enameled cast iron. the way the food self-releases after a cook is incredible. i'm far more impressed with the performance of this cookware than with Le Creuset's. i haven't had to deal with burnt food or having to suffer through ridding the cooking surface of scorched remnants even though they had indeed been cooked on med to low heat. Staub is the superior vessel.
Upon receiving this in the mail, I was pretty disappointed. Just out of the box, it had a number of visual imperfections (scratches, stains, etc). This is my first time buying from Staub so I'm unsure if this is typical for the brand. I decided to keep it because I've heard such good things about these cocottes, but it's pretty disheartening that before even being used once it's damaged.
I was so excited to get this product. Would not recommend getting this in white. I've used it twice and it has severe discolouration already. Disappointed
My pan arrived completely shattered and it has been a month and Zwilling has still failed to send out the replacement as they said. It is impossible to speak to anyone regarding this and emails are never responded to.
