This went up quickly and I mounted the feeder on top and used the hooks for plants. Great price.
I almost didn't purchase this item because there were no reviews, I almost purchased a much pricier bird feeder pole online. I'm so glad I purchased this one! It's really heavy, way heavier than you would expect for the price. Installation was easy, it comes in 4 pieces, the piece you hammer in the ground with a rubber, mallet, 3 poles and the top portion you hang the feeders from. I'm sorry if it looks a little crooked it in the photo, that's my fault, i hammered the bottom portion into the ground crooked and I can't get it back out. Haha. Only complaint is I wish the too had a cover, the opening is totally exposed to where water can enter. It's also taller than 5", which is a good thing.
This definitely compares favorably with poles that are much more expensive. It's a good height and fairly heavy duty. The top of the pole I bought *does* have a cap. Installation was easy, and I was able to hammer the base firmly into the ground. The reason this does not get five stars: the double hanger hook fits around the pole and is fastened by a thumb screw. This screw goes through a threaded fitting that is only spot welded to the piece. I slid the hook assembly onto the pole and as soon as I began to tighten the thumb screw--and it needs to be tight to support the hooks and anything you hang from them--the spot welds snapped off and now there was no way to fasten. I had to improvise in order to finish assembly and set up my feeders.
This is a very heavy duty pole. Installation was easy and straight forward. My ground was a little frozen but found a spot where I could get the bottom piece in the ground. I used a rubber chair leg cap to slip over the top. Previous reviewer commented there was no top piece which I noticed too. The rubber chair leg cap will avoid water getting inside the pole. Not having a top piece brought my review down to four stars.
The part welded onto the feeder hanger part, meant to be what the hand knob screws into, was loose in the box along with the hand knob. I wasn't aware it was supposed to be welded on until I read the review online that happened to mention that it's the only welded part. Thus, I had already put the bottom section in the ground, attached the other parts of the pole, leveled it, waited for the ground to dry, and THEN failed at fastening the hanger to the pole. So now I have to dig the bottom part out of the ground, wipe it off, put everything back into the box and return it to local Walmart Store, and the birds will go hungry for a while longer. By the way, the website says it is "Stokes" product. The box lists Hiatt Mfg.
