Slightly frustrating to setup but works perfectly afterwards

I almost gave up on this lock completely after trying for nearly an hour to set it up and getting no where. The only thing the app would do was recognize the serial number after I scanned the code on the box but it would not connect to the lock at all. I put it away, ate dinner then went back to try a different route. The only way it would work connect it to the Apple Home app, which was accomplished prying off the faceplate of the lock and pulling out the little sticker inside that had the HomeKit code. Once I did that it was good to go in about thirty seconds. In hindsight, I wish I'd just connected it to begin with but I don't use that app for anything else. I had some misgivings about this lock when I first opened the box because it's all plastic. It seemed like it would be really easy to open and therefore be pointless. Now that it's actually functioning properly it's pretty much impossible to open unless you cut it, which is possible to do I'm sure but this isn't meant to be a burglar deterring lock. It's designed to keep dangerous items out of the reach of children, and it's very effective at it. We have it set up on a bathroom cabinet to lock up medications and expensive skincare products and it's been a great tool now that my toddler has figured out how to climb. It gives me peace of mind knowing there's no way he's getting through that lock. I think this is a very useful product that works really well and I definitely recommend it.

This Yale Smart Cabinet lock is really a neat little device. I can lock the cabinet that has things that my wife or children shouldn't have access to. I really like that it has bluetooth and I can unlock the cabinet from my cellphone. The installation of this cabinet lock was pretty straight forward and easy. I took me about 10 minutes to get it all installed and working. Now I can lock away my medicines. The lock seems to be very durable. It came with a neat little template that was really helpful with the installation of the cabinet lock. If you have medicines or valuables in a cabinet. You should definitely give this cool little cabinet lock a try.

Let's face it, the kids don't need to see anything "adult", from pills to liquor to bedroom items. This allows you to feel confident in your parenting and safety and privacy and it works and sets up without an issue. It also can auto-lock behind you each time you close it so you don't have to worry about whether or not you closed it. Also works to keep things away from workers in the home that might be tempting such as cash and jewelry

I thought this would be difficult after reading some of the reviews but it's not! Easy to set up— watch the video. Connected to my Apple phone and I am in business. We used this to secure a cabinet in our kitchen.

Perfect for locking up the alcohol from kiddos. Installation was very easy although the directions are difficult to follow. Once I ditched the directions it was simple. the lock works really good the only reason I gave it four stars instead of five is because of the price I feel like it's a little pricey for what it is. The app works good for me.

Eventually got the thing to work and function as intended. Took a little bit of messing about with the settings on my phone, though. Definitely not the product to guard you against a malicious break-in or something like that, but can do the trick to keep things away from prying eyes, visitors, kids, etc. Definitely has a use case, just make sure you fit within it.

cute idea, but it could be more robust

Yale's Smart Cabinet Lock required the usual ordeal of trial and error steps in pairing the device with my iPhone. They do not allow for (or at least I couldn't find it) a way to launch an account or to register the device via an internet browser; the only option was to do it on the mobile device itself, in conjunction with activating the device itself. The entire set-up protocol should have taken about 10 minutes; but it took over an hour of back-and-forths, between their not accepting the recommended ID photo (first several attempts) + the side-trip down the road of registering with Apple's Home App + registering a new account with Yale + obtaining QR code verification of the device. Mysteriously, as with many other similar apps, the set-up procedure announces that your set-up was “unsuccessful,” and then it turns around by the next screen and announces that you're “all set.” In this case, “all set” meant that the lock and unlock feature on the App did indeed lock and unlock the device! There is a YouTube video, including a version through the Yale App itself, showing the physical lock installation steps. The video is necessary because the written installation instructions are written in a typical, illiterate style, neglecting to inform the new owner of important steps required for successful installation. I don't want to break this new Yale locking device just to test its strength, but it appears that a (fragile?) plastic post serves as the locking element itself – which magically goes to place when the operator selects the “lock” command on the Yale App. So my suspicion is that a small crowbar or even a screw driver could “jimmy” any cabinet door open by breaking the plastic locking element, which is used in place of what could have been a strong, metal element, rather like a “dead bolt.” I was not comforted nor encouraged to discover that a thin piece of plastic is the weak link securing this lock. I will try it out for awhile just to observe its functionality; I will probably not test its strength against burglar-type brute force. This Yale lock would probably be good to keep the kids out of a private cabinet, or maybe anyone else not inclined to pry the cabinet door forcefully.

Potential is there but some issues...

So obviously this is not going to Ft. Leavenworth your cabinet, it's going to slow down whoever is trying to get into your cabinet, not stop them. The plastic components make this a really weak option that can be easily forced open by even a child who is determined enough. Set-up takes a lot of trial and error and I'm irritated that it did not stay connected consistently. The Yale Access app is simple enough but I'm just not feeling like the technology is there and worth the price.

Useful if you're in the Yale ecosystem, slightly gimmicky, only keeps people honest

Installation and configuration took about an hour as the setup process for initial account creation and registration ended up taking a bit longer than expected. The actual hardware installation took 30 minutes or so. After it was setup I had no issues with engaging the lock and disengaging it through the yale access app. Unfortunately I don't trust this on a lower level cabinet to keep children out as many of the components are plastic. With a metal object this would pry open fairly easily due to these plastic parts. It's still likely better than the cheaper cabinet locks out there but doesn't give me complete peace of mind. I could see this being useful in a group home or shared living space.

Be Really Careful purchasing the Cabernet locking

Be really careful when buying this cabinet locking system as last night I had a big problem. apparently, the lock is supposed to let you know when the batteries are low. - My lock did not. So what happens? I kept getting a beeping noise from the lock however my iPhone could not open the lock because the batteries could not open the lock. after 30 mins and 1amm in the morning, I had to break open the cabinet to stop the beeping
