Excellent weather proofing with the bellow tongue nothing gets to your socks and feet making for a very comfortable dry hiking experience regardless of the conditions. I wear them daily and have for years. I'm sixty eight and walk ten miles every day rain or shine. These shoes and all their iterations have contributed to a life sustaining exercise regimen.
This is my third pair of Merrell Chameleons over the past 10 years or so, and I have never been disappointed. I wear large shoes (size 14) and it is sometimes hard to find shoes that fit well. This has never been a problem for me with Merrell shoes. They are super comfortable right out of the box, and they wear like iron in all conditions (scree, gravel, mud, asphalt). I would not go so far as to say that they are truly "waterproof", but they are water resistant over wet ground and grass, and I have never had a pair of low top shoes that kept my feet dry anyway. I also have a pair of Merrell Moabs that I like very much, but I seem to wear the Chameleons more. On a personal preference note, if you find the elastic lacing system to be a vexing as I do, the Merrell 52" round laces fit and work perfectly, and give me much more adjustment if I need to really cinch the shoes up for steep terrain, etc. These shoes do exactly what I need them to. Who could ask for more?
Only drawback I have on the chameleon is the sock. Struggled to put foot through, however once through the sock , the fit was good. Very comfortable. Went through Rocky Mountain National park without issues.
I'm a huge fan of Merrell products the does are super well built unlike the sneaker companies. The shoes have great support and last forever. These particular shoes are real uncomfortable on my feet for some reason. My feet end up hurting after walking in them. I'm used to the Moab shoes which are the absolute best shoes on earth. It could just be my feet but the chameleon shoes are not for me , but super well built..
Shoe, Chameleon Black/Grey waterproof I've been using merrell products of some type for 25+ years. Have always been more than happy with quality, fitment, and value for your dollar. Work construction all my life so my shoes take a beating. Over the last 4-5 years I have noticed the material and construction of my shoes going south. Pairs that would last me 2 or so years are just not capable of it anymore. Current pair (13 months old) has a stitching failure in the back outer heal area. Pair prior (mid height waterproof boot) completely cracked apart after 12 months. Hard to say it isn't quality control issue when the pair before that lasted 2.5+ years. Only reason I had to get new was because I completely wore out the soles. Sorry to say this but it maybe time to move onto another brand.
Great sneakers, bought the Chameleon about 15 years ago and never switched back. One flaw on the new model, the fabric & foam where your heal is wears excessively fast so now my heal is against a piece of plastic.
Disappointed with the new design. In the past I have only wore this model of shoe. The new design is narrower than the old. The new design is 1/2" narrower than the old. There isn't a wide offering. Other than that I love the shoe! Please make a wider one.
This is my third pair of Chameleon shoes. But my first pair of waterproof. I have used shoe stretchers multiple times but cannot get the same comfortable I've enjoyed in the non waterproof Chameleons. I will still choose my older faded pair over these newer ones. Simply for comfort.
Poor quality. Fell apart after minimal light use.
The shoe busted on me during a hike. My heal kept popping out and I had no traction or support anymore. The way it busted, I have no clue how it occurred but it wasn't a gradual tear. It ripped open on a step. More like it busted open down the whole sole.
