If you ever thought zooms lacked the magic of primes, this lens dispels that notion. No more feeling like you're giving something up by going with a standard zoom vs a set of primes, nope, this lens let's you access the bokeh and 3D pop of almost any prime in this range except the 85mm f/1.2. While it does not quite equal the RF 50mm f/1.2 either in terms of bokeh, it's surprisingly close when zoomed in to 70mm. The point is if you are looking for easy access to bokeh this lens gives you that. Now, the 85mm f/1.2 can beat it but then you can always switch to a 70-200mm f/2.8 and beat the 85 again by zooming in just a pinch. Which is why I have just picked the RF 28-70mm and the RF 70-200mm for 99% of my shooting. I don't see the advantage to a prime lens except in very extreme scenarios.
RF 28-70 f2 is the best lens I have ever owned. One of the best lenses canon ever made. I am happy to replace EF 24-70 f2.8
Great lens for portraits in confined spaces. Great bokeh, great image stabilization. Nice, sharp images!
I wasn't sure if I should keep this lens after suffering terrible back ache after the first long shoot day at a friend's party in London, but the capability and the images are so fantastic that I thought I will get used using the lens. It's my best tool so far. Excellent quality
Wow! This lens is everything I hoped it would be! I feel like I can officially sell all my fixed lenses and just keep this on my camera for family portraits & weddings 95% of the time! (keeping the 135mm f/2.0 for those far away ceremony shots). I've gone the last 18 years running back and forth with my fixed lenses to get different perspectives during my shoots and I'm just tired of it. I have prayed for a zoom lens like this that has the beauty of shooting under f/2.8 to get that shallow depth of field that only my fixed lenses have given me. It's so incredibly sharp and super fast! I almost gave it 4 stars just because this thing is a beast and weighs a lot, but luckily I haven't had any extra hand or back pain from using it all day. Do yourself a favor and get this lens! Paired with the R6, I feel like my photography has taken a huge leap with the colors and sharpness, while also making it easier for me to not have to run around so much for my shoots.
As has been posted many times before, this lens is HUGE! But while it is an awesome lens and seems to be worth it's price tag, which is just as HUGE, it's not perfect! It seems that the praise and reviews this lens gets leads people to the impression that it'll make your photos appear amazing no matter what. That's not the case! You still need to have skill and know what you're doing when using this lens. It's not for everyone. If you shoot a lot of weddings or other high pressure events where you are paid to get the best shot possible, this is a valuable piece of gear! If you shoot things that are laid back and you can take your time with getting the shot, there are other lower cost lens that will work just as fine, if not better, for getting that ‘look'.
This lens covers a lot of ground. I can fine tune my bag and have more capabilities with the range this lens covers. Its heavier but thats the trade off when it comes to a fast lens, also the edge to edge focus is second to none. I purchased this to help me shoot a broader range of subjects as I shoot advertising. I can go from stills to motion without changing lenses. I would highly recommend this as a replacement for a kit you need on the go and for adding to a larger kit when you want to give your clients more than what they expect. I use a light weight matte box with this guy so I can use a broad range of filters. Going somewhat old school. I also use this on a gimbal. I can balance it very quickly and with the internal elements its a dream to use.
this was the first RF lens I bought. It's heavy and the complaints end there. this is the most versatile and sharp lens I've ever owned. its multiple primes in one!! If I had to choose only one lens of all lenses on earth it wold hands down be this.
Love the look of the images. Paired with an R5 I often get images that look more like film. Great focal range for people, cityscape, mountains landscapes. I do a lot of night photography as well and night cityscape and astro both work well with this. The clarity brings out stars you didn't realize were there.
This lens is incredible!! I cannot say enough good things about the 28-70. I use this lens paired with my Canon R6 for mostly wedding and portrait photography. The auto focus is wicked fast, the photos are always tack sharp, and the bokeh is very beautiful. I've always preferred prime lenses. I was unsure if this lens would be good enough to replace the need to carry around multiple prime lenses in my camera bag, but I'm happy to say it did!! This is my go to lens for all my professional client work! I will say I do not recommend this lens for travel because of the size. *The photos I attached are not straight out of camera they have been edited in post
