When watching our new home being built in 2012, I decided it was time to be a bit more discrete about our rear surround speakers in our living room. I pre-wired during construction and installed the speakers--one a few feet from a side wall, the other six inches away from the wall. So having the ability to punch a button and change how one speaker reacts next to a wall was a big bonus. I call these rear surrounds, but they're really more side surrounds in this room. I aimed the speakers a bit behind the listening position and they still provide spacious, accurate effects--even in front of the sofa. Our house is a ranch, so the speakers are in a ceiling below an attic. I did push back the blown-in attic insulation from the speaker a few inches and I didn't install back boxes before drywall. I ran Audyssey via my Denon AVR-2313CI receiver and the 70RTs match up well with my RTi A7s mains and CSi A6 center. These speakers aren't bass monsters...and they aren't designed to be, but my Hsu VTF-3 Mk5 helps fill in the gaps nicely. We're getting ready to finish our basement and I'm designing the TV room's audio system...within a fairly tight budget. I'll likely scale down the fronts to bookshelf speakers on stands and use a similar center channel, but I wouldn't hesitate to use or highly recommend the Polk 70RT again.
Excellent surround in-ceiling speakers. I bought these for my 11X18X8ft home theater, and they are great. They demonstrate good highs and midrange, but their best strength is the deep bass from the subwoofer. The super thin bezel disappears in my ceiling. They were easy as pie to install.
