I was provided a camera to mess around and practice with, which came with 2 lenses. i loved it. But something was missing. I was told i need a nifty fifty. So i did some research and came to this lense. I saw the reviews and thought ok i need to get this and try it. for the price it was reasonable. Since ive had it, My portrait shots are sooo much better. its not great for movement, but when captured it is absolutely great.
This lens is great due to the fact that it captures so much light. Also, its background blur is amazing. This is a great lens for a low price.
Listen. Buy this lens. It is so cheap compared to the other Canon lens and you can get stunning pictures with it. Stunning. At the price point and for what you can achieve with this lens, I would highly recommend adding this to your camera bag.

Everybody knows about the nifty fifty! It's a wonderfully small prime lens that has a fast aperture for a cheap price. The STM variant does seems quite a bit better from the previous version. I have used this lens on my Canon T3, T5i, and now my R8. It works perfectly for portraits or if you need more light in darker situations. It is softer at f/1.8, but sharpens up around f/2.8, which is still perfectly usable. It's a little tight on crop though, but I felt it was was easier to use on full frame for more everyday situations. I'm mostly planning on switching to the RF 35mm, but the 50mm is still an invaluable tool to have in most photographer's and even videographer's bag.
I was surprised when I started taking pictures with the EF 50mm f/1.8 STM lens. The lens is comparably inexpensive and I didn't expect high quality photos but I that's exactly what I got. This lens is an ideal walk around lens because it's small, light, simple and very effective. I think it works best on a full frame camera because you get the actual 50mm as opposed to a cropped sensor camera where you would get an effective 80mm - but sometimes you may want that too. I have heard this lens referred to as the "Nifty 50" and now I know why. I'm very happy with my purchase. Thank you Canon.
This was a recent addition to my photography gear. What intrigued me the most was the price. I had seen photos taken with this lens, and thought I would have to sell my car to get a lens like this. Turned out I only needed to sell my toaster oven! This lens is by far the best-value lens ever sold. I'm a motorsports photographer and need a lens that can capture photos in the somewhat tight paddock. The sharpness of image and overall quality absolutely blew me away! The small size of this lens makes it easy to toss into a camera gear bag without taking up any space. Recently I used this lens for some street photography and the results were great!
I LOVE this lens. It is very versatile, works well for landscapes, portraits, etc. Every picture I take with it is sharp, it focuses well both manually and with auto focus. Auto focus is fast. Bokeh is fantastic, colors turn out great. I'm using it with the rebel T5. :)
The nifty fifty is the one of the most popular lens on the market. It is also one of the cheapest and yet, the quality is here. It provides sharp photo with a crazy bokeh at low aperture. I use it for astrophotography too and results are great. Just be careful around f/1.8-2, chromatic aberration and coma appear on the edges (in very low light conditions like astrophotography), but nothing to be concerned if you center well your object.
