This concentrated gel contains Aloe Vera, known for its skin-soothing properties, as well as Vitamin E, a known skin conditioner. Johnson's Baby Oil Gel locks in up to 10 times more moisture on wet skin than an ordinary lotion can on dry skin. Amazon.com Seal moisture into baby's delicate skin with this pleasantly scented baby oil gel. It has all the moisturizing properties of baby oil, with the added moisturizing ingredients of aloe vera and vitamin E, but in a gel base that, unlike standard oils, won't drip everywhere and make a mess. Smooth it on liberally after baby's bath to seal in moisture, or use it for infant massage. It feels nice on grown-up skin, too, though it does have a distinct baby powder scent. The 6.5-ounce clear plastic tube has a large flip-top opening that serves as a base. --Elisabeth Fredrickson

Aloevera and Vitamin C are great skin care products. I mix with other Vitamin C&E lotions that also have alovera, like After Sun, to use on my legs after I shave and body to add moisture back to my skin. The baby oil also adds additional moisture, and has a nice scent.
So we have had this gel for a while (yes it is discontinued now) but even when I used it a while ago I never associated the small rashes I got after applying it. Well this time it was unmistakable. 30% of my body (the 30% I applied it on) is now one big series of hives and rashes. I didn't look into rashes associated with this til this time and it looks like a lot of people have this issue. So while the smell is divine, the rashes (and there are a lot of them) are not.
A midwife recommended I use baby boil on my bump. I thought getting the aloe Vera oil would be even better. Used it 3 nights in a row and now a couple off days later I am covered in a rash that has appeared on my legs, arms, stomach & chest - everywhere that I applied it. It's hard enough getting sleep when you're pregnant but this has made life even worse. Very disappointed. Wish I'd seen the other reviews before using. Day 4 of rashes now since I stopped using it.
As far as I know I have never been allergic to anything before this product. Living in a very dry climate and during the winter months, no amount of lotion seems to cure the alligator skin. My doctor actually recommended I try this product and after 4 days I developed an itchy red rash on my trunk. Very disappointed as I really thought it would work.
OMG...I wish I would have read the reviews before buying this product!! I have the worst rash ever!!!! It's been 2 days, and its not going away :( Painful and itchy. I can't believe you would put this on a baby!!! I want my money back and reinbursment on having to get treatment and creams. Please take this product of the shelfs immediately.
I bought this, one for me and one for an expecting friend. Without hesitation, I picked it up because I hadn't issues with the other products that J&J offer. Lotions tend to not work with my skin, where oils do. It was greasy, but if I put it on before I went to bed - it would soak in. AH - I have this red, itchy rash wherever I put the gel on. Then I was outside and where the sun got my neck, more rash appeared! And my neck hadn't been affected until days later and I was outside. I am trying Witch Hazel on my left side - so far it is less itchy. Will look to just making my own and contacting my friend to save her from this nightmare! I am glad that I didn't try it on my daughter - I'd been some kind of upset.
This version does not work as well or absorb as well as the creamy. I have to put it on and then wipe my kids off with a towel to protect their clothing. Also the skin seems still dry just slippery. The creamy version was irreplaceable and I wish Johnson and Johnson was more transparent on why it was discontinued. I will not purchase this product again. Hopefully the creamy version will be back on the market. Until then...it's a no for me.
This gel doesn't absorb well and the bottle gets extremely slick when using. It has slipped out of my hands on many occasions and accidentally hit my son twice. I've since tossed the bottle in the garbage. It's not an acceptable replacement for the creamy. I loved loved LOVED the creamy baby oil in the tube. PLEASE bring it back. Looks like I'm not the only one that is missing it!
Love johnson's products and my grandmother bought this for my 7 month old and after two days of use it gave him a severe red rash. Went to research a bit on this product to see if I can pinpoint the reaction and read 7 out of 7 bad reviews was for the exact same thing.
I used this product 2 days in a row on damp skin out of the shower. Several hours after the second application I noticed a rash on my thigh. Now three days later, though I've discontinued using the product, the rash has worsened and spread to both legs, upper arms and stomach. It is bright red and raised and horribly itchy. Knowing this was the only new product I had used, I did a Google search for contact dermatitis from Johnson's baby oil gel and found that there are reports of this reaction dating from as early as 2011 to as recently as February 2018. I'm disappointed in the product, certainly, but even more upset that the product is available for purchase even though it has been causing a bad reaction for both children and adults for years.
