I am trying something new...extra heavy tackle for big catfish. I purchased another combo just like this last year and it was stolen last month. I actually have not used either rod and reel yet so I cannot give a review However, I was in the business of building rods, and repairing rels for many years and from the feel of the rods, and looking at the wraps that hold the guides on, I see a well made rod that shopuld hold up for many years. Beautiful work and finish. The reels are sturdt and well made so ehrn I finally get to use them I am positive they will do what they are made for...catch big fish.
I surf fished with this rod and it casts well and is well built for the money. This is a 10 foot rod.

First day I used it I caught 3 strippers. It works great. The rod is very steady and the reel is smooth. Definitely recommended. For the price it is worth it.
This was my first surf rod and after shopping and researching I feel like it was a good purchase. I can tell that it is not a "top grade" unit but certainly worth the $40 price range. The combo arrived in a carton that was actually two square tube shaped boxes taped together. The tape had broken so the rod was not completely in the boxes. I am actually surprised that it was not broken but just had some minor nicks on the foam handle. Poor packing by Walmart.com. Spoke with customer service and in the end they covered shipping cost plus a credit of 10% of the item price. I was pleased with this offer and they issued a credit to my card. Used the combo this past week for a beach trip and it worked great. Did not have any large catches so I cannot say how it would perform under those circumstances. Good value for the price.
Decent price for an Okuma 10' rod and reel, although a size 80 reel is a bit small for a medium heavy rod of this size (and it's single ball bearing). I'll be swapping it out for a larger reel to catch yellowtail/dorado/small tuna. Okuma makes quality fishing gear, so I was excited to see this so cheap.
Great rod for the price! The string is not the best.. tangles a lot.
Very heavy and cumbersome. Will cast very far out into surf. Very stiff tip. Tough to identify hits. Walmart in Orange Beach had Shakespear combo for 17.50. Much better for surf and pier.
Nice rod and reel combo for the price but not salt water friendly. One surf fishing trip and reel hardware is rusting and line guides are discoloring.
Bought for a vacation to surf fish, and the anti-reverse lever quit working on 3rd day I used it. Wasted my money for a vacation trip. Very disappointed!
