I am going on my third year using this salt water system. I love it! Before getting this system, I couldn't keep the water in the pool clear. Now, I run it about six hours a day and my pool water is clear and clean. I have saved a lot of money on chemicals. The only cleaning I do is vacuuming the bottom of the pool. The cost to run the system is worth it.
This saltwater system is exactly what we were looking for. We had purchased a used one to begin with that work wonderfully but it was time to invest in a new one. It was just what the pool doctor (hubby) ordered. I got it at a great price and it came in on time. Could not be happier with this purchase. Saltwater systems are the way to go, it is an investment but saves much-o $$$$$ in the long run. You will use a very minimal amount of chemicals, basically salt and water with the occasional shock treatment once the water has stabilized. Footnote: the water feels alot softer than a chlorine pool and NO it does not taste salty like the beach.
I LOVE my salt water system -- I will never go back to the old way again. My skin feel so soft -- even after being in the pool for hours. When they say let the filter system run for 24 hours before starting your system, they really mean a FULL 24 hours. I ran mine for about 20 hours and ended up with salt buildup on the plates, which cause the system to give me an incorrect reading on the salt level in the water. I disconnect the hoses, put the end caps on, and then soak the plates in vinegar for about an hour. But, after that, everything was working great again. (Customer Service was wonderful and very helpful) I purchased salt pellets from my local grocery store for about $4.50 for 40lbs. The pellets were half what the regular salt would have cost me, and all I had to do was use my pool brush to push the pellets around the pool floor (about 1/2 hr) until they dissolved. I have an Intex 20X48 pool.
i have a 27 x52 round pool, i had to add 560 lbs of salt,,at first wasnt clearing water, i tested water and it was very low in alkaline, i added a tub of alkaline to it, and pushed the boost button and in 2 days it was crystal clear!!! it was very very green to start with,,that has been over a month ago and i havent had to add nothing to it,,,i think the key to it is that boost button, it is like a shock...downside is, you do have to keep it running, but saving alot of money in chemicals, and my water is crystal clear!! love it
I don't normally write reviews, but this is the best invention ever! I have had an above ground pool for several years now. I would dread super hot days, when someone would ask to come over and swim. I would NEVER know what the water was gonna look like from day to day. Sometimes, a green film would form on the bottom... sometimes it would be white and cloudy. It was a nightmare trying to keep it clear. I had over heard some people talking about saltwater pumps at the store, so I got home and googled it. The reviews were so good, I almost didn't believe it..... but I had to try!! I'm a single mom, so $200 is a lot for me. I decided I probably spend that much in chlorine anyway, so I bought the pump at walmart. It comes with a very short DVD showing how to use it. It is sooooo simple! I went to the pool store and bought some salt. (it's just table salt, in giant bags) The manual shows you how many bags for your size pool. My pool took about 4 bags, and it's CHEAP - about 10 dollars a bag!!! I brought the salt home, cut open the bags and dumped them in the pool, and turned the pump on. And guess what???? THAT'S IT!! THAT'S ALL YOU DO!! The salt recycles itself, so you don't even have to add more, unless you splash a lot of water out. The pump turns the salt into chlorine and when it kills bacteria, it turns back into salt and works over and over. My pool was clean and clear all summer long. Everyday, I kept waiting to walk out and have funky water, but it was as clear as bath water everyday. So many people commented on how clear my water was and asked how I kept it that way. When I told them I did NOTHING, except dump salt in and turn the pump on, they were all amazed, and everyone wanted one. I can't say enough about how great this pump is. Whoever invented this is my HERO!!
Used it all summer and the pool never has that slippery feel to the sides or bottom even if the pool is not used for weeks. Once we added the initial 60 lbs of pool salt, we didn't need to add anything else. No more buying chlorine and no more burning eyes...associated with chlorine. Worth the extra money for the salt system and it's great to not have to monitor the chlorine level and all the headache of trying to bring the water clarity back if you let it go too long. It's pretty much maintenance free.
I purchased this product for my Intex pool .It worked very well for about 30 days then a build up developed by the electrylic cell and caused a crack in the plastic in the cell .I contacted Intex and it was the best service I have ever recieved I filled out a form sent through my email faxed them the reciept and the form .They replaced the entire system hassle free ,I did not even have to send them the broken unit..Top customer service good product My pool is now crystal clear and life is good
I think this works very well! You have to follow all the instructions as with any unit. We do not have to add anything but salt to the pool and it keeps the water very clear. We purchased the Intex sand filter to hook up to it and that works awesome too, no more buying paper filters!
we used to have a chlorine pool, but decided to go SALT, we hooked it up to our sand filter and pool pump on our above ground pool, it was easy to set up and has been working great! And im happy because the salt water doesnt hurt my skin by drying it out like using chemicals I"m truly happy > S. Smith, Eustis, FL
I'm fixing to be on my 3rd system in 3 months, the first one arrived and wouldn't turn on at all, i refused to wait for Intex to send me a new one so i exchanged it for another one which worked GREAT, it's been a few days shy of 3 months and the water has been crystal clear, i put salt in it at the beginning and just had to add a little more a few weeks ago, haven't used any other chemicals including shock treatments. Today i went out and the display has quit working, again it won't turn on at all, so i called Intex and they are sending out a new one. I love the system when it works, we have an 18 x 48 pool, we are using the 1500 gallon pump that came with it and it all has been great for the whole summer besides the saltwater system operational issues. the system is simple to use, i had no problems getting it going and the one time i had to add salt it let me know, i would highly recommend it IF they can get these quality control issues fixed because i am beyond annoyed with having to go through 3 in one summer.
