Recently swapped my Alexa product for Google mini to test out the product. Google Assistant is much faster in terms of response time and integrates very well with all my Nest products. Only thing lacking is the audio quality (which is expected for a product in this price point). This is why I recently purchased the Google Nest Hub Max.
Google is the way to go. The integration of all of their services with smart devices is amazing. The Nest Mini is exactly what it is supposed to be. Elegant, quick, smart, and with them around the house, all you need to do is speak. I tried Alexa, I truly did but she is on par with Amazons Tablets.
The speaker sounds great and works great, I love how you can turn off the microphone and control it completely from your phone. The thing I DIDN'T love was having to factory reset it after months of it telling me it wasn't paired with anything (it was definitely paired with my account) and being stumped over what to do. Hopefully I don't have to do that again, but I'm glad it works just like it did when I got it again.
I purchased this for my husband after we saw Alexa at a friend's house. I did some research and felt the Google Mini Nest was the one for us. We are having fun with it. It is a learning tool also! I specifically purchased this so my husband could enjoy the songs and music he likes so much. After a trial period, I found that we have to pay additional for that service. I got the impression that it is free on Alexa and expected the same. That is the disappointment we have.
I mostly use the nest mini as an outdoor speaker when I'm sitting outside listening to music (bring it inside when I'm not using it). It gets pretty loud and sound is very clear. Voice command can be shut on an off depending on if you want to use it as an assistant or just a speaker. You can ask anything and it will read the first google result. Can also be used to set/snooze alarms and reminders. Has compatibility with a lot of streaming apps as well.
I really like my mini's I have 4 in my house and for most part it is great but sometimes it doesn't understand me and will turn multiple things on or off which is a pain due to everything is controlled by Google in my house so I got to figure out what I need on and off at that point.And its not do to back ground noise either usually there is none but I must talk to fast.Other than that issue I love my Google mini 's and my Google home.
We have around 5 of these, spread throughout the house. Volume is adjusted.on them with accidental contact making them terrible for night stands and the sort. These are susceptible to an issue with it thinks the mic is flapping on and off, and they will tell you over and over when you're sleeping "the mics on" then "the mics off". You have to flip the physical switch to disable the mic to stop them. 2 of our minis suffer this problem, making those only good for casting audio to. We mostly don't use the minis any more.When they work, the sound is mediocre, but they get the job done.
I am very indifferent about my mini. It does some things great and others terribly. for instance, it can play the news perfectly, but when it's playing music, I have to YELL at it multiple times for it to hear me - quite frustrating. This is why we haven't gotten rid of our Alexa's just yet.
Pretty bad in terms of quality - following a recent update, it now needs to reset every day to every other day (else it gets kicked off from wifi). I contacted customer service, he said that "higher ups" know about the issue and is fixing it. Months later, it's the same. I like it a lot, but having to factory reset it on regularly basically renders it useless. Really a shame.
It works like any other Google assistant product. However, this model in particular is not worth spending your money on. It disconnects from my wifi about once every 24-48 hours, making me have to re-setup the device several times throughout the week from my app. My router is literally right next to my device and it still manages to just disconnect without any warning whatsoever. I am not the only one having this issue with this model, the Google nest mini. So if you're in the market for a Google assistant, just don't choose this one.
