I use the Marineland Magnum Polishing Internal Canister Filter for aquarium maintenance. We put them in the tank(s) and then begin maintenance which stirs up all of the debris and substrate. The microfilter traps the particles out of suspension while just recirculating the water and clearing it all up. This saves time and money as we don't have to do so many water changes, just this "polishing" function. Completely submersible and we can direct the flow sort like an underwater leaf-blower. Then we pull it out, insert another micro filter cartridge and go to the next tank. I recommend purchasing several filter inserts so you will have time to clean and dry them between uses without waiting. We use the bleach treatment after each use. I've been custom designing tanks and keeping tropical fish since the 70's I HIGHLY recommend this filter!
When i initially bought this filter i had issues with loud rattling and debris blown into the water. I was doing a review mentioning how disappointed i was about it and the response i got from a rep i spoke to over the phone. I will not mention his name. Shortly after my review Christina Gusler contacted me via email and determined the impeller needed to be replaced. They sent me a new impeller in a matter of days! Now its perfect! My original reason for purchasing the magnum polisher was debris in the water. So i was contacted by a second representative for the magnum issue which was already solved but she ended up helping me solve the original issue! Which ended up being improper cleaning to my canisters! She is absolutely the best! She stayed in contact with me step by step until we ultimately solved the floating debris issue! Her name is Barbara Link and she ROCKS! She really knows her stuff! I highly recommend MarineLand! they stand behind their products and give great customer service!!!Lesson learned not every employee will go above and beyond but these two ladies made sure my problem was solved! I purchase all of my filtration systems from MarineLand and will continue to do so! Christina and Barbara you are the BOMB!!!!
I replaced a HOB and a UV Sterilizer within Magnum filtration system and I love it I just wished MarineLand would make this filter for Aquariums less than 20g as I have a 15g heavily planted tank with a external MarineLand C series filter
I had a six foot long, 125-gallon aquarium that had been overtaken by brown algae. The water looked like ice tea. Ran this filter with the micron cartridge alone and within two days the water was sparkling clear! Will use it again when and if the tank becomes cloudy again. Amazing!
I bought two of these thinking yeah right something this small won't clean my 55gal tank full of Mollies and live plants the tank is 2months old and the first month the tank just would not cycle so bought two got home set them up one in each back corner with carbon and jh cloth well this was at 6pm come 6am when I woke up I WAS COMPLETELY in disbelief the tank was Crystal clear did a water test and now mind you the day I started using my nitrates and nutrients levels were80 and 3 and 6am the next morning they dropped to 27 And 0.5 by bed time the second day they were both 0's now I have one running carbon and jh cloth the other is always polishing and my fish are crazy happy... WOULD I RECOMMEND THIS ONLY IF you want a clean tank and HAPPY FISH then it's a No brainer hands down do yourself and your tank a favor stop thinking and just grab one.. you can thank marineland and me later
I have 4 of these now. 2 are in my 100 gallon African cichlid tank one as a normal filter other as a water polisher. I have another in a 100 gallon community tank as a water polisher. My fourth is in my 100 gallon flowerhorn tank as a filter. They work great no issues except woth the cleaning of the micro filter but I've contacted them about that.
Having the 38 gallon bow front kit, the marineland bio wheel 200 HOB is sub par for this set up, added this canister finally took the haze out if the water, I now pretty much use the bio wheel as a holder gir mh ceramic rings with just a pre cut piece of media in front, and use the canister as my main filter. Controlling the flow problematic but with some proper position have jt jusg right. So wish they would make a flow control. But other than that it us a awesome filter/polisher tank is now crysral clear water parameters are all perfect now we can populate the tank.
I'm using this in my 100 gallon holding tank for my winter home for my pond fish ! Very messy and this filter cleared it up in a few hours!
This is a great filter but beware that it works so well that it should be cleaned every couple of weeks. I used it to clean up heavy algae growth in small koi pond in the second picture that went from being totally clouded to crystal clear in 3 days. Upon removing the polishing filter I discovered that it was heavily clogged with all the algae removed from the water which means the filter did the job it was designed for. This fall I moved the fish my to a 90 gallon aquarium for the winter so they would not be frozen in the shallow pond over the winter. After about a week the water in the tank started getting a little cloudy so I installed this same filter (after being thoroughly cleaned) in the tank which again made the water crystal clear in less than two days. After the water became clear I removed the polishing filter and replaced it with the charcoal cannister and sleeve which has kept the water crystal clear for the past three months. These type of filters work so well that they should be cleaned every two weeks if you wish to keep the water sparkling clean. If you let the filter get clogged, the pump motor will start to chatter so be sure to clean the filter every couple of weeks.
My H.O.T Magnum 250 was my go-to filter for the occasional cloudy water issues. This canister is incredibly easy to use. I like that it is completely internal to the tank so I don't have to leave the canopy open. It offers multiple methods of filtration which I have used effectively. It uses the same micron cartridge from the Magnum 250 which was nice given I had a few of those already. I was easily able to charge the cartridge with diatom powder and it was extremely effective. I'm currently using it as a supplemental filter. I filled the supplied cartridge with carbon and wrapped it in the provided pad. It runs silently. Very pleased with this item.
