I've run so many different brands and models of shoes, and finally, these ones nail it. The fit is great - I can dial the fit at the start of a run and adjust it as my feet swell. Also I've run a lot of shoes lately with too much foam exposed on or around the outsole that get torn up on AZ trails... these are bomber. Loving the grip and durability. 4mm drop is great, wide toebox is great. Please keep making this shoe. You guys are really "getting" what trail runners are looking for. Keep it up
Usually takes me a year of occasionally wearing a shoe to break it in to be my favourite for the time being. These shoes are so comfortable it hugs your foot with unprecedented air movement at the same time. It takes on water easily (dewy grass) but is not uncomfortably wet and squishy, yet dries surprisingly quickly. I went on a 45 k hike in the first weekend of real use and enjoyed them so much, I bought my wife a pair so she could experience the pleasure of them too! A real winner. Hope they catch on.
I have narrow feet but wide toes - the toebox on these is awesome. I had a pair of Salomon sense ride trails before this that gave me blisters because of the narrower toebox. The way Saucony integrated the tongue is great too, very minimal rubbing points. When I slip this shoe on I feel like I am putting on a pair of trail slippers they are that comfortable. They surprisingly seem to allow adequate airflow as well and the upper seems tough. I usually get shoes with rock plates but these seem to do fine. I wear a size 10 street shoe (my true measured size is slightly less than 10) and 10.5 in almost all running shoe brands. With a 10.5 in these I have a perfect amount of extra room at the toes, maybe about 1 cm. No toe bang on the downhills!
Had these for 3 years and were so great they are just now beginning to wear down
Overall the build an layout of the shoe is nice good grip on the heal and ball of the foot. My only problem is that the toe box is a little to tight and that the mid-foot is also very small. I tried lacing them in a differrent manner to see if that would change the feel, in which case it did but again the toe box an mid-foot by the arch are still to tight I might have to return them. I know shoes tend to stretch an get lose with usage so will see. good thing about them is that you honestly don't even need the laces be cause the sock fits really well. Hopefully a couple of mesa hill run will get them feeling better. I wore them on a mountain trial hike an it works perfect gong up rocky trials an especially coming down.
I've got a couple hundred kilometres in these shoes now and I'm quite impressed with them. They've all been on packed snow trails and winter roads and I installed the sheet metal screws from day one. I think it's a pretty cool design. I haven't had any traction issues whatsoever. The screws have given me great grip on slick packed snow and icy roads. I'm looking forward to the shoe in the spring and trying out their drainage hole feature. It's pretty cool that this shoe is going to have so many features to look forward to all year round. The toe box does fit a little wide for me but I've found that to be an ok to good thing for longer runs and comfort. The heel stays locked in and provides you with good support where you need it.
I bought my first set of Mad River in May 2020, I loved the fit, traction, and stability. Within I wore a hole through the inside at the heel. I exchanged them for a second pair and had the same issue. I am now on my third, have 300kms of trail on the latest pair, the heels have worn out again and I am now feeling fatigue in my feet from loss of support. I love so many things about this shoe but feel that they do lack in quality. I only wear them for trails and should be able to get at least another 100+ kms before looking to replace them. I did use the studs in the winter and they were great. Just make them last a little longer please!
I bought these shoes for advanced grip on slippery surfaces, good cushioning and stability for my flat-low volume feet. Result: excellent on all points. Grip is good enough on trail without sacrificing wear in asphalt; cushioning and stability are fantastic. The choice of lacing and ability to tuck laces are also great features. However, the lack of waterproof uppers is a design flaw. For a shoe designed for ice studs (not tried yet) and prepped for gaiter use,( have tried) the porous upper doesn't work. For winter use, I have cold wet feet. Spray on waterproofing does not work. It's a shame because the shoe is perfect otherwise.
My tru size is 9.5 but I normally have to size up to 10 in most shoes. The Mad River fits great at 9.5 so a perfect fit for slightly wide higher volume feet. Upper feel really good and I felt like I was connected to the shoe. So it didnt feel sloppy. The lacing system is great and I never felt pressure from the laces when locking it down. The tongue also has a great feel. I think Saucony did good work on the upper. SUPER breathable (obviously). The Sole and mid foot are where I have little issue. The lugs are wonderful and the drainage hole adaption is genius. The sole and mid foot though have no structure or support. You can literally bend this shoe in half in reverse. The shoes needs a little structure from the heel to mid foot and a rock plate. The current design, you just feel to many objects and if you were running in these dont step on any sharp rocks, theres no protection. Overall a very comfortable shoe. Had some stability and a rock plate and this shoe will be an east coast hikers dream shoe.
Typical of most Saucony shoes I've worn recently, these fit great, offer comfortable cushioning, and look good. Unfortunately after the first use, the heels on these ones are rubbing my heels raw. Shame they can't be returned. Such a a waste.
