I ordered the G11 after reading quite a few reviews. The quality and sharpness is excellent. I also ordered the 207 EX external flash. Compact and powerful, it lit up at night out doors with full digit zoom at almost 100' as if It was daylight and 15' away. I was shocked, I zoomed in on a book cover and could read the tital remember this is 100' away at night. The trimming feature is a major feature for me, I need to show damages to merchandise in detail and it does a great job. I have been asked if they were professionally taken. Best camera I ever had. Works great with MX860 printer.

Fits perfectly

Fits perfectly in my hands and between the point and shoot (PnS) and digital Single Lend Reflex (dSLR) camera markets. I've had my G11 since late October and decided on it after my great eight year old G2 died, in late September. I was trying to decide between a PnS and a dSLR and decided that the G11 was the perfect blend between the two. A significant part of the reason I decided on the G11 was the improved low-light quality and that Canon returned to the articulating LCD. The G11 has all the creative control of a dSLR and ease of use expected from a PnS. I love being able to adjust the aperture (Ap), shutter speed (Tv), ISO and exposure for when I want/need to be creative/controlling and the next use have a full range of PnS presets for capturing memories with family and friends without having a big, bulky and obtrusive dSLR get in the way of a candid moment. My only wish for the G11 were that the lens were capable of f2.0, but since most dSLR lenses aren't capable of that, it seems like an extreme wish. Note: about a week after getting my G11 I noticed a 2x2 pixel white spot, with a 8x6 noisy rosette around it. I only noticed it after looking at several images, at 100%, in Photoshop. I contact Canon right away and the CCD was fixed quickly. Thank you for being so responsive.

The camera takes fabulous photos and makes a great travel companion. How else can you get SLR quality photos in your pocket. Took it on our honeymoon to Itally and it took flawless photos of all the sites. Low light performance should be better and a bulb function would be awesome. On a side note, we also used this camera in our photobooth setup at our reception. The photos were very flattering and the guests loved the prints from the canon printer.

As the saying goes, "the best camera is the one you have with you". However, I wasn't interested in any camera that didn't have dSLR capabilities. This baby does also it makes great pictures AND I get to use my 580EX . Did I mention the teleconverter? Now I can shoot from 24mm equivalent focal lenth to 196mm. I suppose I would like some extra features, like maybe have it call me for breakfast! We don't want to mention the excellant competition so I won't except to say that only OCD secondary to ownership of the other leading line would cause someone to write a negative review of the G11. My other cameras are a 5DMK2 and a 20D

Being a long time user of mostly 35mm equipment, I appreciate the ability too make quick changes with dials instead of menus. The camera feels very sturdy and the weight and size are appealing to me. Image quality is superb. Image stabilization works very well. One neat feature is the ability to set color rendering to replicate a well known transparency film. Yes, I would appreciate a more substantial control dial, but that is just nitpicking. The appearance of the camera is a plus. It is a bit more stealthy than an slr and tends to draw a whole lot less attention. Now, if you could put a shutter speed and aperture dials on top, it would be jut about perfect. Otherwise, no complaints.

I normally shoot a Canon EOS 1ds MK3 and have all "L" lenses. I bought the G11 to have a lightweight camera to take with me when I wasn't doing serious shooting. I have been floored by the quality of the G11 images and the ease of use. The fact that it will shoot RAW images is huge. The low light performance is acceptable and the image stabilization is a great feature. It has a flash shoe that will fire PRO Canon flash units. I have already taken some shots that have amazed my pro friends: nobody believes that I was using a point-and-shoot camera on auto. It also handles pretty much like my EOS: I did not have any learning curve. I may actually use this camera on some assignments. Finally, shooting with the G11 does not attract the unwanted attention that pulling out pro gear causes. It lets you disappear and shoot things without being noticed. If you are a pro and want a point-and-shoot: you can't go wrong with this camera...and will find yourself leaving your 'real" gear behind unless you are on a serious assignment. If you are an amateur, you'll find that you can make great images and learn a great deal without breaking the bank. Great camera!!!

I have wanted a new camera for a whlie and had a school trip to Greece coming up in about a week. My parents were nice enough to buy this camera for me as a before Greece/early birthday present. I simply LOVE it. I had been debating between getting the g11 as an advanced point and shoot or an entry level slr like the EOS Rebel XS. I have to admit that though there were features of slr's that i was fond of and consideing I only had a couple days to learn the camera, the point and shoot was the best option and I love it more than I would have loved the slr. It also served the most options for me. The point and shoot still had things like video, color accent, flash control, and can shoot in rawfile format. It is very travel-friendly. It took very fast, good quality pictures which helped when going on tour buses for many hours. The moveable lcd screen helps with sunglare. As well as the built in sensors on the lense itself. Video doesn't shoot in HD, BUT it can shoot in color accent and color swap which were new and fun features to me. You can add filters, other lenses and flashes too it too so it has many options available to customize it. Don't think that because it isn't an slr that it isnt adaptable. Its a better deal for the price. You get a lot more features as a point and shoot at this price than you do at an entry level slr. This really is a WONDERFUL camera. I've been dedicated to Canonfor 7 years and this was one of the best purchases that i've made.

G11

I have just purchased the G11. I "ONLY" bought the G11 due to me being an former owner of a G9. I had a problem with my G9 and it needed repairs as it would not turn on. My problem was that I had no idea where the warranty card was and the sales receipt was also missing. I tried hard to obtain it from the company that I bought it from as all of the companys stores had closed and it is now a total online thing. I explained this problem to the tech at Canon. He told me to send it in and it would be fixed free of charge. This is why I bought the G11 and a friend of mine bought a EOS Rebel T1I. Most companys would of told me I was out of luck but Canon did not. This is why Canon has a customer for life. I love my G11 it has so many advancements over the G9. Its worth every penny I paid for it and my next camera will again be a Canon camera.

IT IS ALL ABOUT PICTURE QUALITY

Out of all my point and shoot cameras I will choose the G11 if it is a important picture and I have to get it right. The ISOs between 80 and 800 are very good, I even have some keepers at 1600 iso. I use a wrist strap instead of the neck strap, thats just me though. The control dials are so easy to uses on the fly. I never thought a compact point and shoot camera could produce such great photos. I am getting about 400 to 450 pictures per charge. The 461.000 megapixle tilt/swivel LCD screen is bright, clear and very versatile>(Grand kids, getting down to thier level). The G11 just has a good heft and feel to it, this is not a light or little camera by no means. The G11 has a good sharp lens, the shot to shot and flash shot to shot times are good>(Coming from a point and shoot world). From using a bunch of canons before I felt the G11 was easy to use. I mostly take pictures of bear in the Smokey Mountians (CADES COVE) and I love chaseing the grand kids around taking their pictures.

Viewfinders are important!

The only reason I bought this camera is because it has a viewfinder. I hate holding a digital camera out at arms-length to take a picture. Your hand shakes and you can't see the screen in bright sun. This is a wonderful camera, but it has way too many features for the average person. It is very complicated and has features only a professional photographer would understand. It takes GREAT pictures. I wish camera companies would make lower-end cameras with viewfinders.
