[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have several laptops but the one that has always been my favorite is my Dell XPS 13. So when I wanted a new 15” laptop, the new Dell XPS 15 seemed like the perfect upgrade. Out of the box the first thing you notice is how well it is packaged with each component in its own compartment so that nothing can be damaged. The Dell XPS 15 is a beautifully crafted machine offering a winning combination of excellent build quality, high performance, and exceptional user experience. There are many configurations for the XPS line. I am a fan of Dell products.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] After about 4+ years of having my XPS 13, I decided it was time to upgrade my computer. I really liked my my 13. But I wanted a little more space to work on the screen. With how compact the frame is, I chose to go with the larger computer this time. Man I love this computer! The upgrade to the i9 processor and internal cooling of the XPS 15 picked up where I left off with my 13. It runs much cooler, while having more power. I went with the 16gb of RAM and 1TB of storage. With how well my previous XPS held up, I have no reason to believe this one would hold up the same!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] My new XPS15 is replacing my 5 yr old Dell laptop used for travel only. My daughter has a XPS13 that she uses for work at NIH and recommended the XPS to me for home use. My trip to Microcenter to "pet" one made me quickly realize this was the one I wanted. It helped that when I ask the sales associate to show me the equivalent by any another manufacture, he said "this is it, none are as good as the XPS. Dell got this right". Plus there were none in stock, telling me that they were a hot item. It was super easy for me to purchase mine on-line from Dell and allowed me to choose a larger battery and SSD. The delivery was around 45 days but to my surprise I arrived in less than a month. I'm loving how fast and responsive and light it is. I'm a musician and was surprised with the 6 speakers on my XPS 15 and how good they sound. I'd recommend the XPS 15 to anyone.
Before buying I was a little worried about overheating and the noise brought by a constant fan spinning, so far after 3 weeks usage it's awesome, no noise at all for mild workload, my main usage is for work from home, not gaming, screen is awesome, touch pad is good.
I came to this from an XPS 15 9550 (2015 edition). So I'm approaching this from the perspective of a longtime Dell customer excited to upgrade to the latest and greatest. Pros: - Everything you like about the XPS line - Performance is what you would expect given the specs - Excellent battery life - 16:10 OLED screen is gorgeous, crisp, even at low brightness - Webcam no longer at the bottom of the monitor like it was on my old XPS, the worst - Fingerprint reader is a convenient bonus - Runs Ubuntu with very few headaches Cons: - Runs a little hot, fan is a little loud—this can be configured but I can't find a sweet spot - Built-in mic quality is poor - Built-in speaker *quality* is great but volume is on the quiet side Overall, this is a beautiful machine, very similar in form and feel to my older XPS 15. It weighs about the same. The keyboard travel feels better, and I like having dedicated home/end keys again (on mine they were on the left/right arrows). The large touchpad is great. By far my favourite two things are the battery life and OLED screen. They work so well in concert! My previous XPS had a 4K touchscreen, which basically killed any hope of good battery life. This 1920x1200 matte OLED screen on the other hand is a built-in battery saver, especially if you like running your apps in dark mode. I don't miss the touchscreen at all. Maybe I'm just easily impressed because this is my first OLED laptop screen, but it truly is magnificent. I just helped my dad set up a new laptop from a competitor that was much cheaper ... after having used my XPS 15 for a few days, I could really see the difference in the LCD screen on his new laptop. I think OLED has spoiled me now. I bought this as my primary device, mostly for web, writing, and programming. I installed Ubuntu 20.04 alongside the default Windows 10 installation without many issues. Needed to disable secure boot, and the default kernel didn't have WiFi drivers. A subsequent kernel (5.11.0) has fixed this. Other than that, Ubuntu runs very well—battery life is good (I installed TLP). The fingerprint reader does not work on Ubuntu yet, but other drivers from this manufacturer are supported so that could change. As mentioned in my cons, I'm disappointed with the sound quality of the built-in mic considering how important video/audio calls are these days. Bluetooth headsets and USB mics work fine. Some of the issue might be the Waves Maxx Audio software being used for noise cancellation. Speakers are quieter than I expected even at max volume (although in Ubuntu you can exceed the 100% volume, and then it's ok). Despite the Nvidia card, if you want a gaming laptop you should buy a gaming laptop. I haven't tried any AAA games yet, but I suspect they would run very hot. Overall, I'm very satisfied because this is what I wanted: an upgrade to an already-familiar device. It feels like my old XPS, but better in every way. As I have covered in this review, there are some minor annoyances and things I dislike—but I don't think for a second that I could find another laptop that is free of annoyances. I have no regrets purchasing this and look forward to using it for the years to come.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] So far it's a very good computer. The only problem I've had is that it only has USB C ports, meaning you can't connect a mouse, headset, external drive, etc. without an adapter. This is mostly my fault though for not realizing before purchase.
Something that is not obnoxious and bulky like a gaming laptop but still has a lot more power than any average thin-and-light. You can definitely do some gaming and productivity, and the 3050 and the thermals are not bad, with the highest temperatures I ever reacher was less than 80. You should buy this if you: 1. need this for productivity work 2. want some medium gaming on the side 3. Not get judged by your prof because it looks normal but still can game 4. Don't have another performant PC at home 5. Bit better than normal battery life You shouldn't get this if: 1. Want to rely on the 3050 for heavy gaming 2. Just something convenient for little hard work The only disadvantage is the not very diverse IO. Would have loved a usb-a and a HDMI. Also note that the 3050 is NOT has high-end as the other 30 series. It is mobile only and actually has the performance of a 1660 Ti, but that is still pretty good in such a thin laptop.
Purchased the XPS15 with upgraded 3050ti, intel i9, 32GB RAM and 1TB SSD. On the first day out of the box, it crashed. Windows 11 given with computer was likely corrupted. I restored, reinstalled Windows 4 different times. Update drivers. Turned back drivers to older versions. Literally did everything I could to keep this machine from crashing. Still kept giving me the blue screen of death. Such a shame. Build quality is fantastic and the specs on this machine are great. Thoroughly disappointed. To make matters worse, It will take 10-15 days to process my refund. I just wanted them to send me a new machine that works. Really disappointed Dell. I hope you read this.
