[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] La Specialista Coffee Maker is not the coffee maker only …. Just thinking there are lots of bits and pieces which I want to highlight and share with all of you . I must say, when the machine landed, it is quite heavy .You need a helping hand or a cart to carry this beast to your sweet home . First Impression : It was a WOW feeling. It's all metallic, enhances the way my kitchen looks with its stunning finishing and mingling with the granite counter top and other kitchen appliances. It took me quite a time to unwrap the machine as I did not want to damage any part of the machine, given several layers to protect the machine from any damage. Making Space … It may or may not be the challenge for you, but for me it was a bit because I have other appliances using the power outlets in my kitchen area. However I managed to arrange it ,as per my need, like easy access for operating it by me and other family members. Getting started … It looks little intimidating with several buttons on the display and how to get started but all it takes to go through their youtube channel and it has enough content to get you started with different types of coffee, like cappuccino,Latte or Americano and lot more. Also the manual provided is very helpful and states everything step by step. You start with steam cleaning the machine and good part is that it has auto cleaning system, with all the water/steam pumping out from its little outlet. And how do we initiate this ,there is separate button to get that done. I think you can leverage this cleaning thing as and when you want and feel the machine needs cleaning. The packaging includes 1.Portafilter 2. Filter 1 for 1 cup coffee,Filter 2 for 2 cups coffee preparation 3. Total hardness test indicator paper 4. Descaler liquid 5. Tube brush 6. Milk pitcher Best part … (Making Espresso ..) Best part(Making Coffee ..) This is the best and but not least part I like most about this machine, is handling of the coffee beans for your coffee-espresso/latte/cappuccino We all know that it depends on the amount of coffee vs water (how you grind it + water level ). And yeah this is all automated with the amount of perfect work by this machine. You have been given the choice of two coffee filters .Apart from this, you can also adjust the grinding level to your taste (it took me 5 cups to adjust as per my taste ). In my previous coffee machine, the coffee was manually tamped post grinding, however in this machine its just with the lever, which you have to pull to get that perfect tamping done, with no coffee sprinkled outside .. The second part of making espresso is that, once the coffee is tamped , you pull out the portafilter handle and adjust to the portafilter spouts.I must say its little tricky to adjust, it took me 3 attempts to make sure that I was doing it correctly. Its quite hard to maneuver but you will get used to after few rounds. If you have chosen the double dose of coffee , you can have it poured in two cups together as you get two outlet in the portafilter handle. Pressure Gauge: To me it doesn't matter much but I know that for some of you it's the must need ,the Pressure gauge.Yeah its there and you can keep a look for the right amount of it . Milk Based Beverages: This is one of the stuff my kids love that ,the frothing of the milk. Their favorite is the hot milk chocolate on the froth milk. There is also the option of doing it with both (foam and without /flat ) . Nevertheless it goes with the Latte and Cappuccino as well. Initially I thought that the steam for milk frothing would take lot of water ( if I missed it before..you have to fill the water tank ,which is at the back of the Coffee Machine) but I realized that it's a big one and enough to stay for a longer time. Obviously it depends on person to person consumption of coffee as well. Its little tricky for me to take out the tank and fill it back just because of the place where my coffee machine is located. Later I realized that there is also an alert system in front of the coffee machine for low water level. Initially I used to check manually until I knew about that alert (low water level ). Just to add – it has lot of alert mechanism, which I am still learning. It is good to have them as it takes away all the guess work to operate this beauty with all brain. Closing the notes , thats why its not only a coffee machine but an experience you can feel proud of to have and share with others.

Solid home espresso machine

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Ever since I got an espresso machine at home, I haven't seen a reason to buy coffee at coffee shops. You just can't beat the taste of freshly ground, freshly brewed coffee in the comfort of your own home. I love espresso but I'm not an expert barista by any means, so for years I used a Breville Oracle, which is a near-fully-automatic coffee maker that looks like a semi-automatic. Then I moved and couldn't take it with me. Realizing that I still wanted an espresso machine but not wanting to full splurge for another Oracle again, I came across this machine. It's a more affordable coffee maker but with many of the features I love about the Oracle. Importantly, it's got two heating systems (one for the coffee and one for the frothing wand), and it has a burr grinder not a blade grinder. Burr grinders work by using two revolving abrasive parts that crush the coffee into consistent pieces without creating heat the way a blade grinder does (which alters the coffee flavour.) First impressions – there was a lot of thought put into the whole experience! Not only did the coffee maker arrive well packaged, it also came with a starter kit that had two double wall espresso cups and even a bag of coffee! It meant you basically had everything you needed to get started. The quick start guide was full of illustrations of what to do – made the process feel straightforward! The starter kit also comes with a water hardness tester strip and some decalcifying solution (for future cleaning.). From the Oracle machine I know the test strip is for adjusting some settings in your espresso maker based on your water hardness, but I didn't see any mention in the quickstart guide on this. Your kit also comes with a portafilter and two filter baskets – one for single shots and the other for double, a stainless steel frothing jug and a little brush to clean. The startup process was very easy – you just wash all the equipment, fill the water tank, plug it in, and then run hot water through the different parts and you're good to start! Some things I noticed – It's FAST to heat up! With my Breville Oracle, I have to wait about 2 minutes as the two heaters came up to speed. When I turned this on, at first I was confused that there was no timer, but then I realized that the water I ran through the cleaning cycle was actually warm! I switched to the steam wand to clean that during set up and in a few seconds the steam wand was steaming. From turning on to hot, it feels like the machine only takes about 20 seconds to be ready. One note here is that there's no auto-off so make sure you remember to turn off the coffee maker afterwards! There's a bit of an art to getting the right dosage for coffee. There are some recommended settings on the dial for if you're doing 2 shots or one shot and a dial for the amount of coffee. Push the portafilter all the way to the right to start the grinding process. Unlike the Oracle which tamps the coffee for you, you do need to tamp your coffee by hand after you've ground it. To do this you keep the portafilter in place and then pull the lever on the left hand side of the machine. Play around with what works for you, and watch as you are running the coffee maker that the pressure needle goes to the optimal zone. The first few times we did it, we were a little under (meaning we were a bit under extracted). There are visual guides both on the tamper lever and in the portafilter to guide you along but it'll still be some trial and error. The milk foam / frothing wand was straight forward to use. You flip this toggle on the wand to toggle between flat and foam modes. It worked as I expected. A couple other nice things about the coffee maker were the hot water spout, and a small cup stand (for smaller coffee cups so it's closer to the portafilter.) Cleaning was pretty straightforward – I just ran some water through the coffee filter to rinse everything out, put the frothing wand on steam mode with a piece of paper towel under, then wiped the frothing wand with some warm water. The only thing that was a little more effort to clean was the portafilter – coffee got a little stuck on the bottom of the basket, but it wasn't too bad, just a little more effort - brush comes in handy for this! After a few trial an error cups of coffee, we were able to get it just the way we like. I'm happy to have a home coffee operation up and running again! Overall the machine feels sturdy and well made, maybe the weakest part is the coffee hopper (plastic feels a little thinner). It's not too big and fits fine under my counter. Definitely a welcome addition back to our house!

Great easy to use machine with innovative features

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The La Specialista is a excellent semi-automatic espresso machine that makes "pulling a shot" quick, easy, and consistent. This is a all-in-one unit that includes a built-in grinder and innovative tamping lever. The grinder produces a very fine espresso level grind. The metal burrs are sharp and precise and the resulting grinds are consistent in size. It is easy to adjust the dose quantity and fineness of grinds with the built in adjustment dials. The tamping lever is something I've never seen before, this easy tamping feature works very well and helps you get a spot on and always consistent tamp. This feature really makes this machine stand out and makes the whole process much more foolproof. The time, effort, and extra step reduced by this feature really adds up! The pressure gauge shows you the pressure during the pull and helps you dial things in to get a good shot. The machine has dual heating elements that lets you pull espresso shots and foam milk with no delay or wait for the temperature to come back up. This is a huge advantage for those that drink milk-based drinks. The frothing wand has an adjustment for more or less foam. It is designed to be easy to use and produces pretty good results, very nice for those new to the process. The espresso shots the machine produces is excellent but of course it also depends on the quality of the coffee beans you use. I primarily use affordable "mid-ranged" beans and the espresso from this machine is much better than what I was getting before. Strong, balanced taste with rich, lingering crema. I will be ordering some fresher, premium beans and look forward to the results. I also like that the machine can easily make Americanos with a simple turn of the settings dial. It produces a cup that is easily superior to regular drip coffee in my opinion. The hot water spout is located conveniently so you don't have to move your cup, it is also good for making other hot drinks. Build quality is very impressive, the body is solid metal and is built to last. This machine has changed my morning and weekend espresso/coffee routines for the better, I would definitely recommend it to those looking for a easy but customizable espresso experience.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] We are very impressed with this La Specialista Dual Heating System Espresso Machine by Delonghi. My husband and I are huge coffee drinker. He loves his espresso and I love my cappuccino, latte and americano. We have been using this machine everyday and each time, we are amazed by it. So once you set up the machine, put all the parts together, fill it with water and coffee beans, set your bean grind setting, turn it on and all that, the machine is very easy to operate. It may look complicated but it really isn't! You just take the filter holder, insert it on the stamping station, coffee will automatically grind and fill it. Pull the lever on the side just once to stamp it. And then you can out it on the boiler outlet, make sure you have the settings on the dial set to your preferred coffee and press the “OK” button. Just like that and you just created a delicious cup of coffee/espresso. The espresso is delicious and it makes a perfect crema on it. Now if you like milk in your coffee, the frother comes in handy! Use the stainless steel cup that came with it, fill it with 1/4 cup of milk and put the wand in it. tun the dial on the side to turn the steam on and it will start frothing. You can set it to froth or flat. After that, you just empty the filter holder (we recommend getting a knock box) and rinse it. It's as simple as that! The cleaning maintenance of this machine is a breeze! I am telling you… I own a different espresso machine and I hate cleaning it! It has so many parts to clean I never look forward to it. But with this Delonghi La Specialista, you take the drip tray, rinse it, put it back and done. Everything else can be wiped down with a dish towel easily. The water capacity is also great and is stored at the back. The water temperature is just right. My coffee is never too hot or too cold to drink. We highly recommend this La Specialista by Delonghi. It makes our coffee experience even more enjoyable! We truly love it and it looks amazing on our kitchen counter. I highly recommend it.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] De'Longhi's La Specialista definitely makes making top end espresso possible at the comfort of your own home! I was very excited to use it but it did take me a while to set it up. I looked up some tutorial videos online before dive into the instruction manual, it took about an hour and half for my first try because I ran into some error for the machine to recognize the bean hopper. After multiple attempts I finally found out what was wrong, so here's to help everyone else saving some time: in order for your La Specialista to recognize the bean hopper you'll need to make sure it's locked into position by aligning the lock icon with the word “Fine” underneath it as shown in my photo. Once I was able to bypass this error everything was easy and smooth and it literally took only a few minutes to make my espresso each time! Overall this is a great machine, dump in your favorite coffee beans and you are ready for a cup of coffee in no time. This is definitely a must have for any coffee drinker and great for everyday use!

The convenience of specialty coffee at home!

Reviewed in the USA on 2019-05-29T17:00:00

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Because I love to go to coffee specialty shops frequently, I decided to get the DeLonghi La Specialista Expresso Machine. Let me begin by starting that this is my first specialty coffee machine and when it arrived, I was amazed by its appearance. It is completely stainless steel and looks almost commercial grade. Since this was my first espresso machine, set-up was slightly confusing, but the provided manual was very helpful. My only comment about the manual is that it failed to mention the amount of force needed to insert some of the pieces of the machine. For instance, when inserting the filter into the portafilter, I needed to use more hand strength than I thought. It made me question if I was doing the right thing. Similarly, with attaching the portafilter to the boiler outlet, I used more force to turn the portafilter than I thought would be necessary. Additionally, in the quick start guide there were links to their YouTube channel to set up the machine and to aid with making my first espresso. I highly recommend viewing the set-up video before attempting to assemble this beauty! The video I watched instructed me on how to adjust my machine to make the perfect colored espresso and what specifically to look for in the coffee to make sure it is not over or under extracted. These videos also helped me to figure out how to steam the milk properly. The only issue I have with this machine is that it automatically grinds the beans when you connect the portafilter to the tamper station. Occasionally, I will forget to tamp the ground beans before I detach the portafilter. Reinserting the portafilter in order to tamp the grounds will only cause more beans to be ground. The solution I found for this is to turn the machine off before reinserting the portafilter for tamping. Another caveat I have about this machine is its inability to make iced drinks. As the summer months approach, I feel myself gravitating towards making iced coffees or lattes, yet, there is not enough room to fit a large cup under the boiler outlet. After using this machine for the several weeks, I am in love with it and have not stepped foot in a coffee shop since getting it! My home has the scent of freshly ground coffee that provides the ambiance of a coffee shop at home! I highly recommend it to any coffee lover who wants the convenience of specialty coffee at home.

WORSE PURCHASE I EVER MADE
(1)
Reviewed in the USA on 2022-10-27T17:00:00

Purchased this machine in 9/2019. Had to send back to have it worked on twice. Thank God it was under warranty for 3 years. They even had to replace the tray, frother sliding plastic housing that slides up for no foam and down for foam and the grinder. Warranty just expired in 9/2022 and of course it is falling apart again. Needs gaskets replaced, the grind control knob made of cheap plastic broke off and I maybe have set the grind twice since I have owned the machine. The housing starting coming apart and this machine is never moved. I am bringing my 9 YEAR OLD BREVILLE BARISTA back home from the office in place of the LA SPECIALISTA. I have never had a problem with the Breville machine. Guess I will take the La Specialista to a small appliance repair to see if it is even worth fixing. If not, in the trash it goes. I love the look of it and was hoping it would last for more than 3 years. Quality in my opinion is really poor!
