[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This vacuum works better than I had imagined. For such a small machine, it picked up a lot of dust and debris. It rolls around from place to place, avoiding obstacles and did not roll down the stairs. It has a light and little "feelers" that keep it from going where it shouldn't go. It even went under the bed and came back out without my having to intervene. It didn't tangle with my electric cords either. All controlled from my phone app too! I love this product.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I received the IRobot J7 Roomba vacuum in exchange for an honest review. First I should say, my household consists of 2 adults, 1 child, 1 cat and 3 dogs. In total it's about 1,000 sq/ft, with carpet, hard wooed and tile. How ever there is only around 500 sq/ft of area that can easily be vacuumed the other space is occupied by furnitures. You can not deny the absolute convenience this vacuum brings. Along with the vacuum you download an app. You're able to control the vacuum with this. Set daily cleaning timers, send robot back home, pick which rooms to clean, set do not clean times contact customer care and so much more! The J7 is a sleek matte black with nice features and only a single button. Customer care is great. I couldn't get the vacuum to charge and they walked me through several options. It ended up being the wire on the charging station was simply loose. There are a few "cons" though. The vacuum is actually pretty loud so if you think you're going to watch T.V in the same room while it's running, you're wrong! The dust bin is also pretty small. As I said before it's only vacuuming around 500 sq/ft. I have it set to run every day and I still vaccum with the full size once a week since receiving it. All of this to say I'm still having to empty the dust bin 2/3 times each run. It takes a few times to really learn your house and can definitely get its self in some unsafe places. You are able to map out no go zones on the app though. It also seems to want to go against the carpet so it looks like it's on a gravel road hopping along. All in all I would absolutely purchase this vacuum on my own for the convenience alone. It's a great addition to the daily tasks it takes to run our home.
The Roomba has been a blessing for me due to my disability, vacuuming is difficult. The Roomba has solved that problem for me. It's mapping program is very detailed with three pets the effectiveness is phenomenal.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have always wanted a Roomba and this vacuum does not disappoint! It comes with everything you need to get started right out of the box, along with an extra filter and edge sweeping brush. Once unboxed, you plug in the charging station and download the iRobot HOME App which walks you thru set up (if you prefer, you can access the owners guide online as well). I have been using the vacuum for a couple weeks now and it's still "learning" the best cleaning routes (your vacuum will explore and learn the best cleaning routes using it's front-facing camera). I love the Easy to use App (you can name your vacuum, ours is "Spinny Winny"), the vacuum Cleans well and avoids obstacles (like shoes, chairs, etc.), it has a bright light as well. I am a pet owner (2 dogs) so there is constantly pet hair everywhere no matter how much I vacuum. My dogs are not as excited about the vacuum as I am LOL! I have never owned a Roomba or any smart vacuum before so I'm still learning how to set up cleaning routes, automate cleaning, etc. The app is super helpful and there is support on the irobot website as well. Overall, I am really happy with my new vacuum and having clean floors and carpets each day!
This is an update for us from a previous model. Mapping is nice and allows us to easily do just one room if we want. Downside: it still clings along the wall and digs ruts in the carpet...turn, bang, turn, bang as it just keeps bouncing off the wall, so disappointment there. The ruts are the worst part.
We picked up this iRobot Roomba because Sam's has the best prices in the world. The reviews pre-purchase were pretty solid. We did not get one with an automatic Dust Bin emptier because it doubles the unit cost and adds paper bags that you have to buy, throw away and replace $$. For all of its smarts, it does some wonky things like going into areas it's not supposed to after you've created Spaces/Rooms. That does seem to correct itself over time, if you stand in the way of the areas that is not supposed to go into until it 'learns'. Probably the biggest problem we have is that on some of our rugs it pulls up a large amount of fiber causing the unit to go back to its home base to be empty sometimes as many as three times in a 14x14 foot room. A thing that should be at the top of the list upon emptying the Dust Bin, is to take out the paper filter cartridge and clean it well by tapping it on the floor to shake loose dust and then using a brush or vacuum cleaner crevice tool to clean because if it gets clogged, rug fibers will completely clog the unit which will cause multiple returns to home base to be emptied. Once we figured that out, hardwood floors clean very well. Another thing you have to do is at least after cleaning one or two rooms remove the rollers because any long human hairs or dog hairs get wound around inside the roller ends and have to be picked out like little Curly Q's that you might see on a baby's neck. Cute, but they will affect the operation of the unit. It is amazing to see it dance its way around the legs of the chair to clean under it. The battery life is pretty good, but if you have it do more than 2-3 rooms in a row, it will go back to recharge which can take up to 1-1/2 hours (Think Electric Car). And, that's fine if you're not home and don't care. Also found that before cleaning room you need to walk around and pick up things because it will skip an area if there's a shoe or any object out of place. At the end of the cleaning it will Review with you what it saw that was out of place and allow you to determine whether it was a temporary obstacle or a permanent new item in the room. Customer service by email was basically a 24-hour reply. There really aren't many solutions to any of the problems that you have. They just give you an idea of what you need to wait for or try differently. I gave it a 4 out of 5 rating because it requires me to do more work than I would like to have to do. Truthfully, I think that the portable Dyson that we have would do about the same job in about 1/10 a time, but then that's more work for me. We will continue to play with this, but I doubt I would buy another one.
Hardware failure after the 4th run. I thought support helped me fix the problem… but immediately happened again. I emailed them… and haven't heard back. My first iRobot has beeen awesome. (960)
Had it a couple of months and it will not change battery. Tells me to replace battery with new one
This is not worth the extra money you pay for it. Not only did it run over dog poop once it done it twice and drug it through the house. I will say I did call them and they are sending me a new one but save your money and buy a different roomba.
Bought this for a Christmas gift on Black Friday. When my mom opened it it on Christmas Day it wasn't the one she wanted. Went online to start the return it said I have until January 31st to return to Walmart. I go to Walmart they said because it's packaged with a battery they can't take it I have to contact seller. I contact seller they said I'm out of their 30day return policy. 1st off who doesn't extend their return policy through the holidays. I would have never bought it from them knowing that it could cause an issue to return. 2nd Walmart should not advertise the return date for January 31st. So now I have an iRobot unopened sitting in my possession that I don't need that they can resell easily.
