I bought one of these colanders a year ago in Walmart in FL and it has held up well. I am single and don't bake a lot, but I needed to drain spaghetti and other pasta and didn't want to invest a lot. It rinses off very easily. I also put it in the dishwasher a few times and it hasn't fallen apart yet! Another review mentioned the handles. If you want handles you can grab onto securely to lift the colander or place it in a hot pot, I'd advise spending a few more dollars for stainless steel. However, for $2 bucks this certainly is a good buy. Just a note..I recently purchased another one and it's slightly smaller in size, including the handles. Still, except for large portions, it does the job, which is why I'm giving it 5 stars.
Good
You are only supposed to use plastic when dealing with kefir, otherwise you will harm the grains. This one is perfect for separating the grains from the whey. When you drain the grains you have the end up with the grains to use for another batch, and the whey is the actual kefir you drink. This is so much better for you than what is sold in most grocery stores, such as Krogers and Walmart. The sugar content in the bulk of the store kefirs is as bad as it is in energy drink. Made at home the sugar content is so low that the kefir doesn't do much with my glucose levels. When want to, I can drain the kefir using, a plastic sieve, part of a set I bought here, and end up with with a cheese similar quite to ricotta. You also can drink this drained whey. When I drain the yogurt I also make, I line the colander with a piece on linen, which is excellent for drains the whey out. It comes out similar to greek-style, and if I let it drain even more it will be just like cream cheese; I can pick it up with my hand. You can drink the whey resulting from this as well. This colander is very useful and quite happy with it. For the person who melted his, you didn't think that one though very well. You should have known it would melt. For the person draining spaghetti, put it in a pot with the right size to support it, then you won't have to hold it. Both of you needed to have purchased a metal colander. They don't melt, and can be found with feet so you can simply set it in the sink to drain your spaghetti.
This is the best colander I've ever used. I've tried others that are more expensive
when i was drain my food it melt on me i guess it was to hot but it what i paid 2.00
The handles on this item is not big enough causing you to barely hang on the it while you are pouring in the noodles.
