I bought this to go on the back of my mini van. Mine does not have a hitch so we are limited on what to use. This hooks right on to the back of the hatch. If you hook it on correctly you can open and close it without taking it off (as long as there is no bikes). This is a great solution if you have the same vehicle as we do. It is also very easy to install, only a couple minutes!! We love it and I would recommend it to anyone.
I bought this to go biking with my kids. I can fit my bike and two kid bikes on the rack. It's a tight fit since one of the bikes has training wheels. It's a little harder to put the kids bikes on the rack because of their frame size is smaller. It's been a little bit of a learning curve for me to put all the bikes on, but pretty easy to put on and off bikes from rack after the first use. There is one thing I do need to mention. If my children's bikes would of been smaller, they wouldn't of fit. It was easy to install the bike rack on the my 2000 Windstar. The instructions was clear from installing rack on vehicle to putting bikes on rack. I'm very happy with my purchase.
Great price.
This is a great bike rack and a bargain at this price. I was a little suspicious because so many reviews on this site and other sites suggested that its common to have problems with the fit of different bike racks on different vehicles, but this item from Bell seemed to be 'universal', and true enough it fitted the back of my Mazda5 with no problems at all. The straps were secure and adjustable and created a very solid fit against the car. I was also nervous whether the straps would be strong enough for 3 full-size mountain bikes, but the bike rack stood up perfectly to a week that included 2 four-hour trips and a couple of shorter trips in between. There was some sway, so I tied the bikes down with some rope and bungee straps. Also, I'd recommend padding in between the bikes to avoid rubbing and scratch marks on the bike frame, but I'm sure that's true of any bike rack.
Easy to set up and fit perfectly on the the back of my SUV
I had just returned a 2-bike rack , because of weight load of bikes being heavy . Got last one in store , box was damaged but we were leaving for vacation , and need one for the next day . Frame mount hooks were bent in and would miss the support bolt used for rack arm . Using some wrench s and c-clamps was able to fix and straighten frame hooks , though the paint did crack and peel . Still now unit functions great , and is well made . 382 miles straps held without any issues of coming loose . And rear view was not blocked by rack . I gave average because of condition out of the box
This is an entry level bike rack. It does the job, but it's not very sturdy. The buckles are plastic and will likely get brittle if expose to the sun too much. If used once a week, I think it should last you maybe 2-3 years. I wouldn't use it for long distance trips (e.g 8 hrs drive), unless you check the straps often. The straps can easily get loose.
I used this gear to haul three bikes over a 14 hour driving trip the day after I bought it. It held out just fine, but I am concerned that it will not last very long due to all the plastic and thin metal parts. I t slouched on one side no matter how many times I adjusted it, and I think it has to do with the flimsy mechanism. It holds the bikes in place with a peg no more than a half inch thick and the straps all have plastic zip ties that WILL break eventually. Also, the side straps put unnecessary strain on the main plastic components (where the red buttons are in the picture) by folding out from under the mechanism in an awkward position that pulls the plastic up. Does not seem to have been made to last very long. If you can, I suggest investing in something with less plastic that will serve for the long haul.
Great product but did not fit my car. We tried everything to make it fit, read all of the reviews before hand and thought it would work. FYI - if you have a subaru hatchback with a rear window wiper this product does not work on your car. The wiper is right were the bar needs to rest to attache the product properly. So it was returned.
First of all, good luck getting three adult-sized bikes on this carrier. The strap to keep the bikes down broke off on first use. Rack mechanism failed with two bikes on it and dropped onto the trunk - 'causing a big dent and paint chip on the hood. Definitely wouldn't recommend this to anyone.
