Normally I don't write reviews but for this one, I got to. The ATH-990Z sounds great, I was looking for a headset with good sound quality and I was able to look up into world-leading headphones such as Bose, Sony and the only thing that makes them great is noise cancellation and their brand name, not the audio quality it may be natural but boy this audio technica headphones takes the audio quality to another level, the bass is so pure and deep so as the sound quality. The first time I put these headphones i thought that they were like over $1000 due to its quality and when I heard the price I was surprised i didn't waste any time looking in for more headphones I just bought them. Sounds great on mac as well as htc m10. If you love listing to music and want to get that deep feeling I recommend this.Just check them out and you will understand what i mean.
This thing sounds great! I waited almost 2 years to find the right headphone and I finally found them when I bought the A990z. Balance is great as they have a high frequency range, mid range quality is right where it needs to be and bass control is excellent. With 44 ohms impedance, they don't require much power, so using them with laptop audio DACs are perfect. They are also incredibly comfortable for long term use. I previously used a Bose QC15, which are also comfortable, but the A990z are so lightweight that you can just use them for hours and hours and not feel and fatigue. I really recommend them to anyone who wants a solid pair of great sounding headphones. The only complaint I have is the build quality. They could have been made a little stronger. I know the Beyerdynamics and Sennheisers are built better and the A990z are very flimsy compared to some of those.

Background: OK, I have had a set of ATH A900s since 2007. Yes they are 10 years old. These things are Huge and over the ear. The pads started showing cracks in the padding after 4 years, The Cable got some pulls in the cloth and fabric pills after 7 years, maybe 6. The SOUND Quality was why I bought them. The ART models had fantastic reviews and their price reflected that at the time. They are still on the pricey side. As with most things in life, "You get what you pay for!." I have been looking for replacements for these, mostly for the HELL I catch from buddies for having old stuff. I watch them get new Headphones every year and sometimes twice a year. I have earbuds for my phone. When I'm home I plug these things into my Apple iPhone 6 and they sound AMAZING still. I have tried newer ones and the sound is slightly louder and maybe clearer, or maybe it is the bigger volume that makes it appear so. My advice to anyone looking at the ATH A900 anything is as follows. If you are not concerned about their obvious large SIZE. Buy them if they are in your budget. These things bring out the details in anything you use them for. I retired 13 months ago and picked up the Guitar WHOLLY. I play daily at all hours and my family doesn't appreciate the usual practice noise so they stay around my neck. They padding on the ear pads needs replacing, but I just use Q-Tips when I get a hunk in my ear, lol. I bought them to last and going into close to 11 years, they have really stood up to my total lack of care I show. These things are bullet proof.
