I really love this filter. I have a 2.5 gallon tank with a baby female Betta fish. It does NOT cause the water to move around to much. If you have a Betta with a fish tank small than 5 gallons this filter would be great.
I have this filter for three small tanks, two filters i bought and the other filter came with the tank. The first one, the one that came with the tank works fine. Is quiet, keeps the water clear, doesnt make the lid go up and down or anything. As for the other two, it kept on making the lid go up and down. I also noticed they were a bit louder but I guess its just me. I use this for my bettas, does the job. This is great for small tanks.
This is the ONLY filter in my opinion for a Betta! I bought a new tank for 1 of my Betta's and the filter that came with it was a lot stronger (too much for a Betta) and quit working in 2 weeks. This is perfect for tanks 1 gallon to 3 1/2 gallons and Betta's love the fact that they aren't being swished back and forth. Love this so much I ordered 3 extra's, 1 for each of my 3 Betta's. Just in case they take it off the market which is a norm for me....find something I love and bamm they take it off the market.
I have run this Whisper 3i for 2 years without a problem in a 2.5 gallon tank with 3 goldfish. These were carnival goldfish won over 2 yrs ago. The tank has stayed clear and the goldfish have doubled in size. Really too big for the tank now. I pull the whole assembly out occasionally and rinse the entire thing including cartridge and cut a little of the hose off. Probably only changed the cartridge every 4 to 6 months. To reduce the noise the pump is in a cupboard with tape on the cord and the pump is not allowed to touch anything around it.
This filter is really efficient for a small aquarium. However I had ordered two filters and I ended up connecting them both through only one of the pumps because they are so strong. The aquariums I am using them in are just 1.5 gallons each.
Purchase was replacement for like units that had begun to run slowly. Pumps wear and do not force air strong enough for filters after a year of use. Pumps are still viable as air bubble pumps. So still a good buy.
The filters need to be rinsed in-between changes or swapped out more often, as they get clogged and water flow gets noticeable slow. Also, the pump is really loud for its small size, and will happily vibrate its way along most surfaces, which makes it even louder.
The filter works as advertised. It's good for bettas, as this will work in smaller betta tanks. I bought it for my 2 gallon hexagonal tank. My main complaint with it is the attachment. Suction cups would have been MUCH easier, but instead they changed it to a "new" clip design. IT DOES NOT clip on anything. Tanks meant for fish have a lip at the tip, meaning it's way too wide to have this ting sit at water level. Mine has the output about 1.5 inches above the water level because you physically cannot slip it any lower. That aside, it works well, and is very quiet. The only noise from mine is a very quiet hum from the bubbler, and an occasional tiny blub when bubbles reach the top of the filter. My betta is fine with it, and it's very unobtrusive for a 2 gallon tank. I would recommend it for use with smaller betta tanks, but not for use with tanks that have a rim meant for a top.
Dont really see that much of a difference in the water, and this thing is not even close to being quiet. I dont mind it because I like white noise to fall asleep to others may like it quite
Nice design with the clip design. I had to fix the older suction cup model buy hot glueing a clothespin on the back and used that until this new clip model came out. I use this in a 1.5 gallon tanks for beta fish. One fish per tank. This filter works ok for maybe up to a week. After that the water flow cuts down to a dribble. If I take the filter out and flush it, it works better for a couple of more days but then cuts back to a dribble. I also use this in a 3 gallon tank with three small goldfish and it seems to last about the same amount of time. I did notice that as the water level drops so does the flow of water. I tried replaceing the pump with a larger pump but that does not help. The filter clogs way to fast and the water starts to spit out of the filter. I would advise not wasting your money on this unless you want to change the filter once a week. It would be ok as a gift where your not worried about the up keep of filter replacement otherwise the cost will sky rocket.
