I have 7 aquariuums ranging in size from 75 gal down to 3 gal. All the tanks have aeration. I have 1 Whisper 100 on my 75 gl. fancy goldfish tank. I run 2 big sponge filters and a 36" bubbler line off it. It has been in use for 2 years now and it is still as quiet as the day I bought it. Prior to buying the Whisper I was having to replace or repair air pumps about every six months because of the noise. I use a Whisper 60 for my two 20 gal. Both 20 gl. have sponge filters, plus HOB. Again these are very quiet. Both the 75 and the 2 -20gl tanks are in the family room. It is nice to be able to hear the TV without having to increase the volume to cover the sound of the air pumps. Having used a variety of other pumps over the years I am now going to stick with Tetra Whisper. They are quiet and I have yet to replace any parts.
I really like this pump. Nice and quiet with lots of air flow. I use mine on two 20 gallon long tanks and never had a problem. They were a little pricier than others but i'm satisfied. I'm suprised to see mostly negative reviews.

Glad I did not listen to the other reviews. I have been looking at this for a year. My other air pump broke. Today I went to Walmart and for $22 decided to give it a try. I almost got two because I have a 55 gallon with a built in air flow system that goes through the top of the tank in the back and comes out at the bottom of the tank inside. Before it took me two older pumps to get ok air bubbles and it took awhile to get them to get enough pressure. I am using just one of these and not only does it give enough pressure but the bubbles are big and creating a wave at the top of the tank. And you CANNOT hear it!!
Pump is very quiet. Had it for about a year and all I can hear are the bubbles breaking the surface. If you replace airstones/tubes in a timely manner this product will last and run quietly.
This is my first air pump. I have the one for the 20 gallon. And to me its loud. (Dealong with hypercusis.) I did take a video to show what it sounds like. If I pick it up to move it, it vibrates strongly holding it. Otherwise I love the color and the shape of it! Any suggestions?
Worked great for the first 8-9 months but then the rubber cups cracked and no longer works. Repair parts cost over half as much as pump and by the time you pay shipping it ends up costing you more.
The air pump is reliable. I give the unit a low score because the main reason to buy it was the "silent operation". Well, it's not. I have smaller Whisper pumps and they are really quiet but this one vibrates my whole aquarium stand. I tried everything to damp the sound but no success so far.
Pump does not work as well as the 10 gallon pump def
I've been keeping fish for over 40 years, and I've used Whisper Air pumps for many of those years. However, their quality and craftsmanship have steadily declined over the last decade. This pump started out great, then a month later, it was barely putting out air, so I changed my air-stones thinking they were clogged. NO better. It also got louder (as MANY customers have noted). I've had whisper air pumps that have lasted twenty YEARS.... this air pump didn't even last twenty weeks. I NEVER write reveiws, but I was SO disappointed in this product (which cost me over 40 dollars) that I just HAD to write a reveiw. I've kept salt water fish, fresh water fish, and I have a pond. I am an avid fish keeper, and I'll never buy another Whisper/tetra air pump. A LOT of people ask my advice about equipment, and they'll never hear anything good ever again about this company.
