I have been using a Downy ball for 20 plus years. My heart was broken this morning when I went to fill the ball. It was broken, I just had some work done in my basement, and think they have dropped the ball. I remember I had another one. I found it.
My mom had one when I was a teenager and we still use it to this day. It works great we never had a problem with it. It's durable and won't break. It does its job it will open up and the fabric softener will come out when the washer goes on its spinning cycle.
I have used these for decades and always been very satisfied. The new washers of my apartment complex have higher blades so the ball gets wedged under the blade. Can you make a larger bowl for the new washers?
We loved using the downy ball when liquid fabric softener was the option. Then, when my grandson was born many years later, we worried about dryer sheets so we used the ball again with organic liquid softener. It worked great. Now that he is grown, and with so many other more convenient options available, we hardly use the ball anymore.
I remember using the Downy Ball years ago. I loved it. My recent washers have all had auto dispensers which I also love. I recently moved into an apartment. The washer doesn't have an auto dispenser. I thought, "No big deal, I'll go buy a Downy Ball." I ended up buying it online because none of the five stores I visited actually had any. Either way, I was very happy to receive my Downy Ball in the mail. This new ball either doesn't open or doesn't empty. I've tried different sized loads. I'm not using the gentle cycle. It happens regardless of what I am washing (i.e. jeans, towels, t-shirts and socks, work clothes). It is only a month old so I know it isn't worn or clogged. In their effort to save money, boost production, reduce waste, become more green ... whatever the reason ... what did Downy change that makes the Downy Ball no longer work? Please change it back. Thanks, Stacy p.s. Yes, I'd recommend it if they change it back to one that works. :)
This product is garbage. I breaks right out of the package. The first one broke. The manufacturer replaced it (the only reason it got one star). The second one broke right out of the package. I don't know how they can sell this product. Does not work, period.
Used two different downy balls and both times clothes came out stained. Some downy was still in ball.
I love my new Whirlpool washing machine, but didn't realize what a problem it would be that it doesn't have a fabric softener dispenser. The Downy Ball worked sometimes, but more often than not, it would not open to release the Downy Fabric Softener. And now it has broken and can't be used at all. Many good reviews on here, but I'm very disappointed.
I just purchased a new washer which does not have a fabric softener dispenser built in as my last one did. Your Downy ball has ruined ,in one week, so many pieces of my clothing and vintage linens (which are irreplaceable and very expensive) I cannot even count. I have thrown away many garments and linens because the Downy ball must have opened after machine stopped, not during rinse as it should have. I just found this site today. I called where I purchased new washer from and was told to buy another Downy ball. Fabric softener was left on my clothes and linens during the laundering process. Could it be the washers problem being as the washer rinse water is supposed to open this ball? (I have read your reply to some of the other reviews). If the washer rinse water did hit the ball, maybe the ball would open when it is supposed to? Fabric softener ruins fabric. You are lucky if you ever get this stain out, particularly if the fabric has been put in dryer. Who has the time to examine every piece of laundry to see if there is fabric softener on it because of ball not working properly? I do have button on my washer that has to be placed on "on" if fabric softener is used. A couple of times it actually did work correctly and I did not get fabric softener on my clothes. I think I have already lost the amount I paid for my brand new washer in ruined items due to the fabric softener ball. I am very upset. I would hope it would be the washer's problem, my washer is still under waranty.
Our family has always used Downey. Unfortunately, we started using the Downey Ball and it has ruined several of my coats and a few of my work out pants. It discolored my coats and even left one coat feeling like paper mache.
