Works great and saved me several dollars by explaining just where to look for my problem. I fixed the problem and erased the code. Simple to use...great product and worth the money spent on it.
I purchased this tool to diagnose a problem with a 2007 Honda Accord (my daughter's car) for a P2138 code. The repair shop wanted to sell her a Throttle Body and a Throttle Sensor that attaches to the gas pedal for the tune of $1200.00. I told her to don't do it that I will check out. I had her tow car back to her house. I hooked up the tester and yes, I got the same code. I did a volt test on the throttle sensor that is on the Firewall of the car (cruise control model), tested with no problems . There was no throttle sensor on the gas pedal. TPS is part of the throttle body. What I found were dirty connectors on the throttle body and the Pedal sensor. I cleaned them up, erased the codes. Road tested car at different intervals for 3 days-car runs even better after the repairs. No surge or hesitation at all. This tool was a wise investment.
The first time I used this tool it paid for itself 4 X over. I had been given 3 different quotes ranging from $600 to $1,250. I found problem, purchased parts and fix the issue in less than 2 hours myself! Any auto, DIY'er that doesn't have one of these is wasting so much money. Excellent, excellent product, just wish I gotten one sooner.
This tools just provides a simple error code via OBD (on-board-diagnostic) port (available on 1996 or newer cars). Once you have the error code, just go on the web and google the error code for your particular car. Auto repair shops charge anywhere between $20 - $70 for reading the error code so this tool pays for itself in no time. But, you must go the website (www.innova.com) to download an installation software on your computer to get the full explanation of the error code by plugging the device into a USB port on your computer. For now, the 1st month is free but you must pay for subscription after the 1st month. You can get around this by googling for the error code. The scan took about 1-2 minutes on my BMW (I've variable valve timing error as well as oil temperature / pressure errors). If you have the error code, a red light comes on. You can erase the error code by pressing one of the few buttons on the device (I've the 3030f model) - this takes just a few seconds.
Quickly downloaded code from car. Looked up code online to discover it was a bad coil #2. Found a You-Tube video for instructions on replacement. Purchased and installed part. Engine light went off. Bravo!
it is very easy to use. I followed the instructions on how to hook up and in about ten(10) seconds i got the code up. checked online what the code is all about, and that's it. the only bad is i thought the gizmo comes with the cd but its not. On the website, there is a picture of the gizmo with cd on it. so its very deceiving.
It works on my MX5, Ford Explorer and Infiniti QX4. It is a good value for the price. If you hook the device you get a code. If you hook it to intenet it connects to innova and have to pay to get more information about the problem. You can similar information as easily on internet. Getting the code is just the begining it identifies a symptom and then you have to find what problems cause the code for your car and how to resolve them. The factory manual for the car usually have a section for code and what to check for. Depending on the car.
Device only provides code numbers on the LCD screen. Could not download codes from the device to the PC. I tried several times to download the software from the device as instructed from the basic instructions included. Didn't work. Logged in to their web page and downloaded the software from there. Tried to download the codes to my PC and still didn't work. I have two computers. One runs Windows XP and the other Windows 7 Home Premium. Their software did not work on either computer. However, I'll keep the device and lookup the codes on the internet.
My old scanner stopped working so I bought this. It makes you have to pay for a subscription service to find out what the codes stand for. Easier to just google search the code to find out what is wrong with your car.
Does not come with CD as stated. Must give way too much personal information just to find out what the suggested repair is for the code.
