I have been using this brand of animal traps for over 10 years. This trap is a bit larger than what I have used in the past, but it works just as well. It is very easy to set up & VERY efficient at it's job. It's all metal, galvanized construction is rust & corrosion resistant. Mine is always stored outside & has no corrosion at all. The dimensions are 32” L x 10” W x 12” H I have only ever used these traps to catch stray or feral cats. I have never used it on "wild" animals. I live in an apartment complex & when I moved in 11 years ago, there were quite a few stray cats, mostly probably left behind by prior tenants who think pets can be "thrown away" or simply left behind. Since I have lived here, I have captured over a dozen cats & a few kittens - including one of my own cats that I first saw as a feral kitten out in the Winter cold. I am lucky that I have a near-by cat shelter that has taken the others that I've trapped, and finds new homes for them as well. I have also loaned the trap out to friends or co-workers, but always just for stray cats. What I do when I set the trap, is put newspaper down at the far back of the trap & then place a paper plate smeared with some canned cat food down on the newspaper. I then set the trip hook & carefully cover the entire trap (except the doorway) with an old beach towel. Careful to not let the towel interfere with the trip mechanism. The beach towel can serve 2 purposes. It can help to keep the captured cat calm, and I have always thought that if by chance I did catch a "wild" animal (like a skunk!) The towel can protect you from being sprayed. The trap also has a large handle guard to protect your hand from contact with the animal. This trap has always worked perfectly for me for what I use it for. I totally recommend it. I was sent this larger trap from Walmart to try out & review for them.
Havahart® Easy Set Large 1-Door Animal Trap Living in an older neighborhood not far from the river we have a problem with possum's and raccoon's. We have a cat that likes to spend nights outside and if we leave food out for her, a hungry possum or raccoon finds it and the next night it is back for more. I found it necessary to close the cat door to the garage because of the damage the critters do when they are searching for the food we would put in there for the cat. I was very happy to have the opportunity to review this Havahart® “Easy Set Large 1-door animal trap” through the Sparkreviewer program. Havahart® makes it very easy by having the trap fully assembled when you take it out of the carton. I found that setting the trap and releasing the animal is extremely easy. All that has to be done to set the trap is to pull handle on the top back which opens the door and the trap is set. If you keep your hand on the handle, it is easy to place the food in the trap without tripping the door. It was about 8PM the first night I set the trap baited with a little dry cat food. I looked out around 10PM to check the trap and a big possum had already got himself trapped. Release of the animal is just a matter of pulling the handle back to open the door and watch him scurry off hopefully never to return. The next night it was a pretty little wild kitten that was very happy to get out of the cage and over the next two nights we trapped two more possum's. There is absolutely nothing negative that I can find to say about this product. I highly recommend it to anyone who has a need to trap and release a nuisance animal.
I got this trap to help get rid of the racoons, armadillo's and possums from my yard. I actually caught a racoons the first night I used it! It's easy to set up and use. I liked that it catches the animals, but doesn't hurt them. I can just take it off to the woods and release it back into the wild. The capacity on this is really big. Can even catch stray cats and dogs that get into my yard too. Without any dear that the animals are injured during trapping. Great product for those living in rural areas! Highly recommend!
I received the Easy Set Large 1-door animal trap from Walmart as part of the Spark Reviewer Program. I was excited to receive this trap because there are a lot of wild animals in the rural area where I live. Needless to say, I do not want to hurt them...just trap the peskier ones and release them somewhere further away. We already had a smaller trap from this company for catching animals like raccoons and other animals of similar size. This larger trap will come in handy for bobcats and animals in that size range. I could not believe how simple it was to use this newer trap. You can set the trap with one hand...just pull the handle and it is ready to go. Obviously, you need to place some food in the trap to bait the animal. The older, smaller model that we have had two parts that needed to be lightly touching in order to set the trap. The parts were very touchy and would go off if a leave flew by or a good wind came along. This is definitely a huge improvement. It will also make releasing the animal back into the wild much easier. This can now be done with a single hand. Whoever thought up this new design is a genius. This large model trap measures 12.00 x 32.70 x 14.86 inches. It is a wire mesh construction and is galvanized steel so that it will not rust. What I particularly love about this trap is that it is the authentic Havahart brand...which I have always considered the premium live trap for animals. The trap is light weight to lift around, yet it is sturdy enough to secure the animal and prevent it from escaping. Havahart makes traps in a wide range of sizes. I would definitely recommend using a live trap to capture an animal and then re-release it into an environment where the living conditions are more hospitable for it. We are excited about having this new trap, as our friends and neighbors all lend out the different size traps that they have when someone needs to borrow one. No one previously had this size, so it is a welcome addition to the area collection. I would not hesitate to recommend a Havahart live trap to anyone.
This is the best live trap that I have used to date. I live in the country and sometimes we need to relocate some animals. This is so easy to use. The handle to set is just pull and it's set. Then to release you can stand behind it and just pull the lever and never have your fingers down around the animal. I caught a wild barn cat that had been hanging out. He was calm and just laying in there. This is called a large but it's cat, possum, skunk or raccoon size. If you are thinking about a trap this is a great one to get. I will definitely tell friends about this one!
I received this free to sample to give an honest review. Upon getting it out of box, it is fully assembled, ready to use. It is sturdy but not too heavy as some that we have used. Cage is made of metal that's not going to bend. Its balanced well so as not to tip while animal is inside. It's very simple to use. Our intent is to trap a neighborhood beaver at our lake. We have not successfully caught ANYTHING yet, but theres no reason we SHOULDN'T eventually. The closing mechanism is simple and should engage the trap as described when the animal enters the trap. I would HIGHLY recommend this trap.
Havahart: easy set large animal trap: This is the trap that you want because it protects your hands and the animals that you trap! I had another cage before this that the raccoons destroyed with their claws. You do not want any angry raccoon roaming free in your vehicle while you are transporting it. The cage is great because it sets easily and it traps animals quickly without making much noise and it does not hurt the animal. The cage is also easy to set or open, with one hand, both; to set up or to release the animal. While the animal is being released the cage protects you because you do not need to be near the animal. Proof that the cage does not harm the animal is given when the same cats repeatedly entered my cage in order to eat the bait. After eating, the cats would wait for me to come and release them. I learned to feed the cats before I left the cage baited for raccoon apprehension. In two months I have caught 15 raccoons with two traps. - We used permanent markers to put numbers on them to insure that they were not the same animals. The traps work great! The secret to trapping them is to put smelly, fresh canned cat food in the cage. I did have to rerelease a couple of neighborhood cats, but I am happy to be raccoon free. We transported the raccoons 20+ miles away and across a river so that they are less likely to return. So far so good, as none have returned. You should know that these raccoons are dangerous and they stink horribly. They shredded another brand of cage with their claws. In another incident, they came at me like a pack of wolves, showing teeth and threatening me when I tried to leave my own home. You will want to move them while they are inside of the cage: in a truck bed, or inside of a plastic container because they will urinate everywhere. They will cling to the sides of the cage and try to urinate on you. I would not catch another animal without this cage. It is effective, safe, and reliable. There are no drawbacks to this cage.
This Havahart Animal Trap is very easy to set and release as well. I have always had a hard time setting animal traps, but this was extremely simple and convenient. The cage comes assembled and the door opens and closes with one simple move of the handle. It is made with galvanized steel, so it will withstand various weather conditions. I have been having problems with raccoons occasionally in our garage and we are still waiting to catch them, but the cage is constructed so well that the release will be simple and painless for the animal. I also love that the box indicates the best bait to use for common animals. I highly recommend this animal trap to accommodate many species of animals.
Havahart Easy set trap is a great humane option to catch and release wildlife. The cage comes assembled in its box and is ready to set upon receiving! It has comfortable plastic handle and Inwas surprised to find that the pointed tips of each clasp of the trap that clampstge parts together had a glue/ plastic coating over them covering any sharp points. Inside the boa you will find a one page 5 step catch and release directions. Each step contains words and pictures for easy set up! I have yet to catch anything yet, but found it easy enough to set up.
Here we have a review on an Easy Set Large 1-Door Animal Trap by Havahart. The trap being reviewed is model # 1085. First impression after unboxing was that the trap comes fully assembled and ready to use. Everything is galvanized for long life of the trap except for the carrying handle, the handle to set the trap and a plastic piece on the bottom edge of the single door which creates a lip for a rod that is designed to keep the door closed containing the animal the trap was set to catch. The rods for the trip plate are on the outside of the trap to keep them protected from the trapped animal and that is critically important. The carrying handle being made of plastic concerns me since you need that handle to be sturdy enough to carry the trap with an unhappy wild animal inside trying their best to get out. This was the first concern I had upon inspection. The next thing to cause me concern is the handle to set the trap. This handle is also plastic and though it is not weight bearing the sensitivity set knob is threaded through it and I felt it may be too easy to strip the threads of the plastic handle. Adjusting the knob in makes the trip plate easier to trip for small light animals, turn the knob out for larger heavier animals. This all sounds easy and is a humane way to remove animals that have become pests until you get to the trap the very next morning and find the trap empty and no longer usable without a major overhaul. The problem seems to be the way the door closes and the rod to keep it closed did not work as intended after an upset raccoon was determined to get out. This company has been in the trap business a long time but my impression of this particular trap is it needs more real life testing.
