Used the smoker 3 times since I bought it and it is everything I could have hoped for! I did a brisket, some ribs, and smoked some sausages. They all came out great!
BEGINNER AT SMOKING YET I DOVE RIGHT IN WITH 3 RACKS OF RIBS AND A PORK LOIN. 6 HRS. LATER THE VICTIMS I INVITED OVER FOR DINER WERE OVERWHELMED BY THE RESULTS. TASTY AND JUICY WITH A PERFECT SMOKE RING IS WHAT THEY GOT. VERY EASY TO USE. YOU'LL GET GREAT RESULTS KNOWING THAT SMOKING REQUIRES PATIENCE. THE CLEANUP WAS VERY EASY AS THE GRILLS WERE WASHED WITH JUST SOAP AND WATER. CONSTANT MONITORING OF THE WATER LEVEL IS A NECESSITY. SECOND ATTEMPT WAS THE FRESH KIELBASI I MADE. HUNG THE RINGS ON A WOOD DOWEL ACROSS THE SMOKER AND THEY CAME OUT GREAT. CAN'T WAIT TO TRY THE SALMON AND WHITING ON JULY 4TH.
I got this as a gift, and I am so glad. I have never eaten anything better than what is cooked in the smoker. It is easy to use and is GREAT!!!!!!!!!!
Got this as a gift and was a bit skeptical... with just a little practice and some patience and trials, I was able to produce some of the best smoked BBQ'd meats we've had. Fish, turkey, brisket, baby-back-ribs, St Louis ribs, roasts.... I keep trying and improving the results. It is fun and challenging and the results are worth it.
After wrapping with fiberglass blankets, the gasser will run at 225, sometimes hotter when the water runs dry. I do use a 9 x 14 pan on the bottom shelf to hydrate the smoker instead of the "bowl" down with the chips. The middle bowl dries up quickly, so not useful to keep your smoked good moist. The lack of racks, and the cost of additional racks (the smoker comes with 3) is a problem. I scavenged two racks from a kenmore smoker to bring the number to 5 - so I can use 1 for the water pan and cook on the other 4. That's 4 briskets or 4 whole boston butts, more than the original smoker is capable of.
I bought this for Christmas and it arrived December 19th so I had time to break it in with a rack of St. Louis Ribs for familiarization. Proceeded to smoke a Rib-eye Roast for Christmas dinner and have subsequently smoked salmon, whole trout, Baby Back Ribs, bratwurst and duck breast. It is really easy to operate, although it does run a little hot, closer to 275 than to 225 which I would prefer. Only real negative is that it arrived in damaged packaging and as a result there was damage to the lower edge of the main box body that I am afraid will rust fairly quickly due to loss of paint in that area. It could definitely have been better boxed for shipping.
Do not like the combination of water and chip/smoker container as well as the previous model with separate water pan and cast iron chip/smoker box. Water evaporates rapidly, making it harder to maintain constant temp. Do like the separate tray so that you do not have to open main door and lose heat
Box was pretty banged up upon delivery. Luckily, there were only two dings on the smoker and neither effect assembly or usage.
This is probably a good smoker but I am going to have to put wood burning fire place sealant cord around the doors. I noticed the excess space between the door to the smoker as well as the water, wood chip area. I am hoping the 3/8 cord will fix it before I start returning the smoker.
Delivery driver left the box in my driveway in front of the garage door. The box looked like its traveled through a war zone. Product was not as damaged as I expected, but not in perfect shape. the bottom and door were dented making assembly difficult. Where the legs screws are to be tightened it has limited space due to welded shelf rack in the way. I've used it twice so far, the temp is a little hard to keep consistent and the igniter has worked once out of many many attempts. Ended up using a candle lighter. Food taste great but will take some getting use to trying to maintain a good temp.
