This is a great bird feeder. I have 3 others exactly like this one, and they work. If a squirrel or even a large bird gets on one of the feeding perches, their weight causes the wire framework on the outside to lower so that metal leaves cover the feeding holes. Squirrels have bent back the metal leaves on some of our old feeders but were still unable to get to the birdseed. These feeders used to be sold at other retailers (e.g. Lowes); however, Walmart.com is the only place I could find them when I ordered this one. If you want to outwit the squirrels (and that is not easy when food is involved, believe me), this feeder is the way to go.
Good quality bird feeder, keeps the squirrels away and the bigger bird from being able to land on it.Itbworks as advertised!
This bird feeder I just bought is a replacement of the same bird feeder that was bought about 7 or 8 years ago. The other one, the plastic container discolored and all the metal rusted after years of being exposed to the elements. What's interesting about this product is that if a squirrel tries to eat the food, there's a cage that will slam down and cover the holes so that they can't eat the food on the birds. Where as the birds are so light, it won't slam shut on them. I would definitely recommend this product.
beautiful feeder. the springs work, but the metal leaf sculptures help the squirrel raise the cage to eat. oh well, they need to eat too.
The only problem that we had with these bird feeders is the birds having a problem using them. It took them a little while to actually use them. But they have started using them and seem to do fine, except that only two birds can eat the birdseed when it gets near the bottom, but it is working well, now that they are used to these new ones.
This works very well the amount of pilferage from squirrels. It seems like every time I get a new one it is more cheaply made. The last one I had to repair before hanging it.
I bought one, and it's done just fine, but to be honest, I really don't have major squirrel issues (knock wood). The hawks keep mine in check. But I went ahead and bought one for my mother anyway, who has Major league Giant red squirrels in Arkansas. Needless to say, they were laughing the whole time I was putting up this feeder. They took apart the spring assembly with a blow torch, and now even the birds can't get seed either. Also note worthy: I haven't figured out to clean it, which is very important. Please Keep All Feeders Clean!
I'm so disappointed! This feeder broke the first time a squirrel tried to get in it!
This is the second one I was stupid enough to buy. As with the first one, the squirrels use the wire grid to hang on, then bend the little decorative leaves up, then empty the bird feeder in under an hour. Apparently no testing was done, this product is expensive and definitely does not work. Maybe you should call it a squirrel feeder.
This product did not do what it claimed - the lid did not stay closed after the spring had been activated by birds. Squirrels can pull the cover up and get at the food. Since this was a gift and my timeframe was limited to set this up for my aging parents, I could not send it back for another. And was not sure another would be any different. I have the same product at my home in another state, that I purchased several years ago in store, which worked wonderfully. Never had the lid problem. So I was very disappointed in this. I was looking forward to purchasing another for myself, since mine is wearing out. But will not now, unless I can find it in a store. :-(
