This little sander works perfect for my needs. If I had to list one fault, the dust bag doesn't stay on well and it will only work if you find the sandpaper designed for this sander with the holes in it, which I could not find. But, since I was outside, the dust did not bother me and the sander worked great.
I purchased this sander for removing varnish on the edges and corners of wood flooring, as well as smoothing out other wood surfaces. It works very well, and the sandpaper is easily attachable and stays on during use. To my surprise, it also came with one fitted sheet of sandpaper and a paper punch. The paper punch is placed over a fresh sheet of sandpaper, that is affixed to the sander and it punches holes in the sandpaper that align with the dust collection holes on the underside of the sander, through which it draws dust from sanding into the dust collection attachment. The only draw back to this sander is the dust collector that attaches to the rear. Dust easily escapes through the holes within the material, which isn't an issue during outdoor use, but can make things a bit dusty during indoor use. Overall, great product for the price and easy to use.
I completely wore out this same unit. I liked it so much I purchased another. It is excellent finish sander. And it is much quieter then my Makita. I would have awarded it a five star rating except I beilieve it should last longer without replacement. But that is just my opinion. "Peanuts"
I've used this just a couple times and it seems to work just fine. It's a great price for the product and the brand is well known. It doesn't seem to be a sander for hard labor though. Just for hobbists and minor home repairs. Just what I have in mind for it. I've read another reviews about it being hard to place the sheet in the sander but I found it to be extremely easy. You just don't have to apply to much pressure on the surface when sanding in order to have a nice finishing and also to avoid the sheet from falling off the sander. Just read the manual :) I only had two issues with this sander: first, it's 120V only! Oh my! These days, really! I live in a country with 220V electrical lines so it's a problem for me because I need an electric transformer in order to use it. No other way for it to work. Second, the dust collector doesn't seem to be very good. Dust goes all the way through it. Maybe the collector bag is too coarse for it to work properly. Also, it doesn't actually collect all the dust. Anyway, I guess it's better than nothing at all!
After about half an hour of getting to know this little machine I learned two things. 1) This is a "Finishing" sander..it ain't one of the big macho sanders!..but it does the job admirably. 2) Forget the cute little vacuum attachment. It does nothing. Poking holes in the paper only diminishes the area of paper..ergo..less sanding. After having said all that, I can honestly say I'm very satisfied with this little machine. It was a good investment.
This is a must have if you plan on doing small jobs around the house hold and the applications of use are just enough to get the job done, all you need to know is what sand paper to use and apply weather it's steel or wood etc. the results are based on how well you follow instructions
The sander worked without a problem. My sole issue is that the type of sand paper required to use this sander was not sold by Wal-Mart, nor any manufacturer nearby. The sand paper that was sold was not for this sander and I spent more time adjusting the sheets than actually sanding and the dust was everywhere but in the dust catcher. This problem is not with Wal-Mart but with Black & Decker, the company should have at the very least provided the proper paper to sell to provide proper use of the product to have a great reviews.
It is small and easy to maneuver, it vibrates so vigorously that it makes your hand go numb rather quickly though. lol. This is good for very small jobs unless you enjoy changing paper every 3-5 minutes. Seriously, these tiny pads are gone in an instant! The dust bag is useless, absolutely useless! I sanded a table top in my kitchen, when I was finished I took the bag off to empty it and there was nothing in it! I mean NOTHING! Not even slightly dusty. This is for outdoor use only without question.
Great for the small jobs. Comfortable to use. A bit messy with the dust collection. I have had one for three years now. For small jobs this is a great unit. The reports about the iffy dust collection are true. Here the unit doesn't do a stellar job. It seems to collect about half of the dust it creates as long as you punch the holes in the paper. I think the biggest flaw in the design is that the motor has a bearing on the bottom and a bronze bushing on the top. There is no way to get oil to the bushing and mine got hot enough to melt the plastic support. Black & Decker doesn't have a replacement part for the unit and I now have a bunch of nifty but useless electrical parts. I'm off to buy some other brand!
I should have taken the advice of other reviewers and not purchased it. Its is extremely messy. I would guess that only 70% of the dust actually makes it into the collection bag. Also a moderate amount of pressure is needed even though the directions warn against it. If you are in a hurry--spend the extra money on a better quality sander.
