My hubby needed a chalk line to help keep vinyl plank flooring straight while installing. This 100 ft line worked great. The chalk is pretty much permanent and is listed as level 3 on the back, it is great when using to keep flooring straight. You won't have to worry about the line being rubbed away, so you want to use this where it can be completely covered. You definitly could use it when installing tile.This chalk line can also be used as a plumb line for a wall project too. The kit came with an extra bottle of chalk for refilling when needed. We love the new Hart products line since you get good value for a good price , when on a budget.
I actually really like this chalk line. It's made of a plastic, which makes it light weight. At first, I wasn't sure about the plastic body, but I actually enjoy it. If you're a framer and worry about dropping it from 10 feet in the air you might consider a different chalk line (I didn't give it a durability/drop test). But for my applications in normal DIY work around the house, this chalk line is great! It was perfect for marking studs on drywall (see pic). Because it's white, it does tend to show the chalk and seems to be a little messy (see pic). But this shouldn't deter you from purchasing this product. It functions very well. Bottom line, I would definitely recommend this chalk line to a friend.
My husband had recently left his chalk line on a job site so this came in perfect time. It's compact, great quality, works as it should even after multiple uses. The 100 feet is a huge plus for longer straight lines needed. It's very easy to load the chalk. Very useful tool to have and works great. I highly recommend this product!
As a first timer, it was very easy to get setup and use. I wont need it too often but for the project, ripping long boards, it made creating a straight line quick and easy. But I will say that if you want a mark that is easy to erase/get rid of then get the blue chalk pack instead.
This is an invaluable tool, so much easier to measure each end, stretch the line between marks and pluck it...makes a nice straight line to cut along, or put nails along...so much easier than any other way! The red chalk doesn't rub off easily, your line stays put!
This will be very helpful with my work. Has 100 feet of line. A large bottle of red chalk. It also has a line holder. The only thing with red powder is it gets on everything.
The Hart Reel Set arrived in a white colored well taped shipping envelope. It is mounted on a piece of cardboard backing and has a hard clear plastic covering. The chalk string is white in color and made of synthetic polyester material for durability. It is encased in a nice white sturdy ABS plastic case. There is a stainless steel grabbing/ring attached to the end of the string for pulling out of the case. The case is 5.5" in length and 3.5" wide. It fits in the hand well, the material is not slick and doesn't slide out of the hand and there are no sharp edges on the case. It has a folding crank handle that is black in color and is used to re-track the sting back in the case after using. It's easy to use the chalk string once you roll out your line snap the line twice to get a darker line. It leaves a nice crisp line with no smudging and doesn't over use the chalk. The old style types with the cotton string would constantly leave extra lines or not enough chalk. It comes with a full squeezable 4 ounce plastic bottle of red chalk the bottle is black in color. It has a red twistable cap that has a nose cone for easy refilling the string case with chalk. The chalk bottle has indentations on both sides so it's easy to handle and not drop during refilling. The whole set is very compact and can be placed in a tool bag for travel on a job site. This would make a great gift for any Do it yourself Craftsman and can be used on any surface. It is made in the USA.
This is a very handy set for chalking/marking wide sheets of plywood drywall or etc for making straight cuts. The handheld unit is of nice size and seems well constructed. My previous chalker was metal, so this is a nice and lighter alternative. The refill chalk is of nice quantity which should last for years to come. The crank handle for reeling in the line seems well built to function for a long time. All in all, very happy with the item and it's anticipated longevity.
I needed a chalk line for a job and didn't have 1 with me. This was cheap and came with chalk. Not a fast retrieve but got the job done and I'll keep it for a backup.
This was set on a table and 2 of my kids stole it and took all the string out of it. Little upset about that. I did try and use it before hand it did work great, one thing I didn't like is, it didn't wanna lock. I kept trying and trying and it wouldn't lock. The red chalk is a pretty big amount. It has a lip on the end of the string that makes it easy to store on the side of the holder. Overall. It was a pretty good product!
