I only use the Duck Brand Clear Plastic Sheeting PreTaped Top Edge to winterize certain windows and I can see outside through this plastic!
I really like this product. Someone came up with an ingenuous idea to apply tape to the plastic so placement will be fast and easy. I didn't need assistance from a family member to place the plastic to the window so no one else was inconvenience with helping me. I would definitely recommend.
I bought the roll of pre-taped plastic sheeting along with the large roll of "duck" tape. After the first application, it was still a little drafty, so I applied a second sheeting on top of that. It Worked!!! The cold air is blocked, and the room heated up. You will need to use the "duck" tape to secure the plastic sheet to the window. The tape already on it will not hold if there is a strong wind or breeze coming through the window. On the sheet roll label, it does states that you will have to buy the "duck" tape along with the sheet roll. I bought the sheet roll because my window is very wide, and it covered it perfectly.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This plastic sheeting is exactly what I needed to insulate my windows during the winter. It was easy to apply, and the tape has held up pretty good. The plastic is heavy-duty plastic so just on that alone, it was worth it to me. We live in a 3-bedroom 2 bath house with 13 windows, so It took two rolls to get all the windows. This is a high-quality product that has so many different uses.
This product is FANTASTIC!!! Easier than Styrofoam inserts (home made) and greater protection than using shrink wrap for your windows. Having it pre-taped allows you to start at the top OR the sides. I personally taped the rest of the sides with shipping tape to make a wonderful finish!
The pre-top edge makes literally any window or door a one person job! It was very easy to put up by myself, even on a very large bank of windows, and was very easy to lay out the width and cut the plastic before putting it all up. So you're not forced to fight the role while you try to fight the plastic into place where it should be. I did use a couple of other pieces of tape, just on the outside when I was hanging the plastic even though the double side tape is already there, I didn't want to take the chance that it got dropped or folded over on itself, and got stuck and ruined it, so I put the plastic in place with a couple of pieces of masking tape to hold it up, get it positioned correctly and then I pulled the backing off of the double-sided tape and stuck it all down. It was very easy honestly when this is usually kind of a pain in the butt. Keep in mind you will need more double-sided tape for the other three sides! and if you use duck brand like I did, their small rolls of weatherproofing tape are just that, Small! Also, keep in mind that their tape is super flat. It doesn't stand up off of the window frame at all, so getting this off might be pretty painful. So if you're concerned about your woodwork, consider using foam double-sided, tape instead of the tape that goes with us. Otherwise it's wonderful. It is not quite as clear as it looks in their pictures, but once you shrink it with a hairdryer, it does go pretty darn clear you can easily tell it's there, but it's still fairly clear. There's been no problems with it being dam, or coming off of the walls getting poked through or anything like that and it's been up about a month.
Initially, I was really pleased with these. They were straightforward and easy to install, and I appreciated not having to use a blow dryer. However, after just a couple of weeks, they started to detach from the top. I had to re-retape the top portion myself and I think that's pretty awful. But I would probably purchase them again and just be sure to tape them over the top right away with something else if I didn't want them to fall. I ended up sealing around the sides and bottoms with painters tape anyway, so for me, it wasn't that big of a deal. But I do think it's a quality issue that the plastic detaches from the tape that is already attached to it so easily when clearly that is not intended to happen.
This "shrink wrap is "NOWHERE NEAR" as clear as the brand most people use (Frost King). Once installed, it looks like permanent rain mist/foggy day outside. I would suggest this for anywhere you don't need to gauge weather before getting dressed for the day (sweaters, hoody, umbrella, coat, hat, gloves); PATIO DOORS AND BASEMENT WINDOWS. I have two large windows to go....33.5x63, and one 24x33.5. I just replace double sided tape each year and keep my plastic in as great a shape as possible. I may wind up donating this to some poor person (not bad taste, keep up) who is as desperate for the window covering as I was to keep cold winter air out with global supply chain on the ropes. I gave three stars because it keeps cold air out. Its' useful. Buyer beware.
I was disappointed in how thin this plastic was. I used over my crawl space door. I ended up putting another layer over it of a different material I bought. Next time I will go to the hardware store and buy visqueen. The sticky strip at top was helpful since I was installing it myself.
it won't stick to the walls and the plastic is super thin and cheap. now i have to spend double the money to buy a different kind that will actually work
