Purchased to replace a similar lantern I had for years. The plastic in the switch finally dissolved with age. Great value including batteries and will also accept a 6volt lantern battery. Adjustable stand is a nice added feature. This lantern will throw a strong beam of light the length of your attic! The bezel around the lens sits off the surface too, so you can tell if its on when placed face down on the floor. (killed the battery in my old one too many times to count.) Overall, very satisfied. We'll see how long the switch lasts (a weak point in this type of lantern).
I was amazed to find such a high-quality hand lantern for only 7.88 in my local WM. I can't figure out why, but they're not sold anywhere else (even online). The lantern is very rugged (rubber and polymer) and of sturdy construction, yet it's also ergonomic and easy to tote around. The Krypton bulb is not as bright or efficient as an LED, but it's still pretty bright--certainly moreso than any other lantern in its price range. It also produces a good spot with a wide flood. I'll be keeping it in my car because it would make changing a flat tire in the dark a hundred times easier (especially with the integrated six-position stand). An added bonus is that it comes with 4 D-cell batteries that sit inside a holder that fits in the flashlight. The batteries are heavy duty, so I chucked them and removed the adapter so I could put in a 6-volt battery instead, which should give the lantern a much longer runtime. Still, it's nice to be able to use D-cells in a pinch, so I recommend keeping the adapter handy. By the way, if you want to use a 6-volt, go for the heaviest one you can find, as they use F-cells instead of D-cells and therefore have more capacity. BOTTOM LINE: I like this lantern so much that I'll be buying another on my next trip to Wally World while they're still cheap. The only caveat is that this lantern is a bit heavy, especially if you replace the D-cells with a 6-volt.
The light itself is great, but it killed 4-D batteries on the first day of a 4 day camping trip. Other then that...it did the job.
