I braid little girls hair with different textures. This product is great. I have not experienced flaking and it holds really well. I ran out and braided with another product that didn't work as well.
I almost didn't purchase based on so so reviews. Glad I gave it a try anyway! I used on freshly washed hair that was blown out with my Giovanni direct leave in and Jane Carter leave in for heat protection. I followed that up with a light coating of nourish and shine before twisting with this conditioning gel. I applied from the root and applied more as needed working towards the end, because I discovered that it was drying before I could reach the ends if I applied all over first. I did medium sized two strand twists on bra strap length 4a/b. Twisting was easy and tangle free. Once hair dried, I had juicy, shiny, and smooth twists with a firm hold. One day later, the twists are still gorgeous, but the hold has softened up a bit and twists are light and bouncy. Also, there was no flaking. Excited to add one more Shea moisture product to my collection!
Rediscovered this product again at TJmaxx stores. I thought they stopped making it. Love the scent and the consistency. Learn to use sparingly though to avoid flakes! It does not take a lot. I like to use this when im too lazy to make my own homemade flaxseed gel.
Perfect for any braid or twist. I use on male and female/ boy or girl. Not creamy but applicable. Nutrients but not gritty. This gel can stay in for hairstyles lasting a month or daily without forming and drying like most gels.
I use the detangler and gel straight out of the shower to create my military buns. If you wear them, you know they are tight and can stress your ends, especially your edges. So far, all I can say are good things about the product. My ends still feel moisturized at the end of the day and placing the hair into the bun is effortless.
I've used this both for styling my hair for braiding and moisturizing the hair when it's already braided and both resulted in heavy flaking. I used it on clean hair and applied a normal amount–enough for my very thick and coarse hair to feel moisturized–and within an hour it started to flake and my hair looked so dirty. Not sure how to solve this without washing my hair all over again. Even my hairdresser was astonished when I went to her the next day and she saw all that was coming out of my head like dandruff!
Used this to do my box braids on clean, blow dried natural hair. My roots and braids had hold but the roots looked dry and dull using just a small amount of this product. I stopped using this after several braids and used a different gel with better results. Other products from this brand have been great.
I bought this product to style my daughter's box braids. The product did make the braiding process easier, but it felt sticky to touch and left flakes in her hair. Just to be sure I used the product again on clean hair when I installed my kinky twists, and got the same sticky film on the hair which causes build up. This has been the only product that I did not like by Shea Moisture. Everything else is amazing!
This product smells amazing plus left my hair moisturize and bouncy but I can't get over the fact that my hair has white crust at the roots and it's so flaky all over my clothes looks like dandruff. I put it on my fresher washed hair. Maybe I'm using to much product.
This smells great, looks great, feels great. It is everything you hope it would be. I woke up my braids were on point. Got to work wearing an all black suit, and halfway through my meeting realized I was covered in white flakes. It flakes HEAVILY! And I was wearing BLACK! I was so embarrassed! Save yourself and do not invest.
