Worked perfectly! This is the first time I have used a mold. I combined a pound cake recipe with a box mix, since my son wanted confetti cake. We turned it into Hobgoblin, like Wilton has on its site. My kids loved it!
I am about to make my fourth bear cake using this pan. To ensure release, you need to generously grease the pan, especially in the smaller nooks, then dust with flour. Piping the fur is quite time-consuming (takes me over an hour) but the result is well worth the effort!
I used this pan for the 1st time and followed the directions. The cake released from the pan easily with no problem. You'll love the ease of use, and soon will be asked to make these cakes for others. My 1st time using decorator tips and pastry bags, so it's not the best, but grandkids love it. I LOVE It!
I received my package on time thank you Jet. I have not used it yet will be doing my first bear this weekend! I had to watch some videos since the instructions weren't to clear however viewing the videos it seems like this is going to be awesome or messy. Can't wait to try it out!
Used this cake for both my kids first birthdays. Used an all natural, (free from processed sugar) chocolate zucchini cake recipe. It's dense, but still good moisture. The pan worked great. Even cooking, no leaking, nothing stuck to pan. (I used cooking spray and lightly floured the pan)
I bought this pan for my grandson's birthday. I wanted to try it out before the actual day, so I did a trial run. Overall, it was so easy to use. I also used the Wilton spray for easy release. I was a little worried about the heat core, but it came out so easy! I am anxious to make it for him now for his big day in August.
There are lot of dietary restrictions and allergies, for instance those who are gluten free or vegan. So I will post a recipe I got with another moulded pan below. I will attempt to post a picture of my finished cake using the mentioned recipe with this post. I really had hoped that the "complete" instructions for this bear pan had actual recipes (thus making them complete instructions!). If it had recipes I could alter the ingredients to make it vegan (and have a choice in the source and quality of the ingredients), instead of being told to mix two box cake batters together. I looked on this website and the internet for a recipe but I only found the recipe on here (Wilton) for a cinnamon bun bear, which wasn't cake but bread based! In my opinion, Wilton should fix this with the instructions and/or posting it in the recipes. Two more clips would be helpful as well. I love the pan though, it's cute. Here is the recipe I used; IMPORTANT- multiply the recipe by FOUR times (I did, multiplied it by four and I had some batter left over). Alter ingredients to make it vegan (use egg replacer and almond milk and vegan becel) Alter for gluten free (replace with gluten free flour). For this teddy cake multiply this following recipe by FOUR times(I know I repeated that again!); For vanilla cake (a chocolate variation follows): 1 cup sugar (cane sugar for vegans) 1/2 cup melted, then slightly cooled butter (or vegan margarine) 1 1/2 cup flour(sifted) 1/2 cup milk (or almond milk) 1 tsp baking powder 1 tsp vanilla (real vanilla!) 1/4 tsp salt 2 eggs (or egg replacer) To make the above batter chocolate; Add 3 tbsp cocoa power (sifted) to the above vanilla batter. Did you multiply the whole recipe by FOUR times (included the cocoa?) to make enough to fill this bear pan? Preheat oven to 350F Combine butter and sugar until together, then add other ingredients as order listed. Bake (in bear pan) 50-70 minutes-check with long toothpick check doneness (don't over bake).
I had one of these bear pans years ago and baked the cake for my kids and other relatives and friends, often loaning it out. Eventually it got lost so I ordered a new one, now for my grandchild's first birthday. The pan is made of a much thinner metal than it used to be. Nonetheless the cake turned out very well and I enjoyed decorating it. I'm sure I'll be using the pan again!
I bought one of these pans many years ago and recently bought a new one. The new pan had dents in the bottom part of the bear's tummy. I tried to gently tap them out with a small hammer. The metal the pans are made of, with the exception of the inner core, seem to be pretty thin and bends quite easily. That was disappointing because my first bear pan from years ago, was made much better and with thicker metal. Otherwise, I am happy with the pan. I recommend you follow the included directions exactly, to get a good result.
Probably will not use the pan again. The cake texture was poor, ranging from places in which it was overdone (extremities) to barely done. The pan itself was flimsy and required repeated bending of the lower supports to keep the pan from leaning. The finished product was very cute, however,.
