Great for baking larger cakes. This keeps the outer edges from getting dry and also helps keep the dome in the middle donw. Just remember to grease the inside so you can get the cake out later.
If you make large cakes at all, this is one accessory you should have at your disposal. Not a lot of investement but it ensures the cakes are properly baked through. Just put it in the middle of the pan, fill with a little batter, and you'll have a nice little cake to fill in the hole later. Just don't forget to spray it with BakeEasy spray when you spray your pan. So useful! It hasn't let me down yet!
I used the Heating Core for the first time to bake a half-sheet cake and was amazed at how well it baked and how little I had to top off the crown! I used the baking guidelines given on Wilton's web-site: baked cake at 325* for approximatly 40 minutes. The cake was perfect and no "almost done" middle!!
i never knew it was possible to bake a large cake at a short period and it ending up moist and evenly baked until i got this heating core.than u wilton
This heating core works well in making sure your cake is baked evenly. I received this product for my unbiased review.
This is a cake maker must have! I had a lot of trouble getting my bigger cakes to cook in the middle until I heard about this Bakeware Heating Core. The Heating Core helped me make the perfect wedding cake for my brother! No more soggy centers for me!!!
This is definitely a must have for serious bakers of large cakes. It keeps the middle of the cake at the same baking temperature as the outside areas. You have the mini round cake piece from inside it to place in your hole in the middle afterwards. Be sure to coat the inside of the heating core with Cake Release so the cake will come out easily. I have used this many times successfully!
I bought the Decorator Preferred Bakeware Heating Core this past week to make a two-tiered stacked cake for my sister-in-law's mother who retired from the University of Arizona after 29 years. I couldn't believe how the middle of the cake came out; it baked evenly. Before my cakes wouldn't bake well; now I know why. At the the retirement party, guests were telling me how moist the cake and frosting was and that they loved it. They asked me if I worked for a bakery and I told them no. I even received future cake orders. I have been baking, decorating cakes and have purchased Wilton products for the past 25 years and have never used a heating core before. I definitely plan to continue using the Decorator Preferred Bakeware Heating Core for All My Future Cakes. I look forward to purchasing more Wilton products. THANK YOU WILTON!!!
Yes, this item is great for baking larger size cake layers evenly but can be used another way too. I had to do a 12 inch donut cake so I greased the outside of the baking core and placed it upside down in my pan, poured the batter in the pan and baked. After it was cooled I turned it over, removed the baking core and had just the perfect shaped donut donut cake. Did not even have to carve (round) the ouside edges.
Heats your cake more evenly. I had trouble with the cake inside the heating core sticking so it fell apart a little. I've only used it once though so I'm sure I will figure out a better technique next time.
