Besides telling a new story in the Halo saga, the point of this game was to prove that the real-time strategy could work as well on consoles as on PCs. "Command & Conquer 3" came close in its controls, Koei's "Bladestorm" had great depth in its action-tactics, and "Endwar" had a breakthrough innovation with voice commands, but this is the game that really lays the foundation. It's hard to explain just why it succeeds so thoroughly at this; I can only say that this is the only console RTS where I have felt truly in control of what's happening all over the battlefield, as much as when I play Warcraft 3 or Red Alert 2 on PC. Judging it on its RTS merits alone, it still stands up tall. There's only one campaign, but it delivers a satisfying experience by making each mission unique. Unit/tech trees are simple but deep enough to support varied strategic approaches. Both large and small scale combat encounters happen at a pace that lets you exercise complete tactical control. Multiplayer maps vary from simple to intricate, offering a variety of shapes for the battle to take, whether you're playing 1v1 or 3v3, and balance is nearly perfect. If you thought this was game was supposed to be another shooter, you weren't paying attention. If you own a 360 and like to use your higher-level thought processes, you owe it to yourself to get this game.
The Game play for Halo Wars has been awsome so far. I am a big stratigy game player. I LOVE IT.
IF U LOVE HALO 1,2, AND 3 YOU WILL LOVE HALO WARS AND HALO WARS LIMITED EDITION I NEVER LIKED HALO UNTIL MY BROTHER STARTED PLAYING IT NOW IT IS A BLAST I THINK HALO WARS IS AWESOME BECAUSE IT TAKES PLACE 20 YEARS BEFORE HALO 1 IT HAS AWESOME GRAPHICS AND COVENANT FORCE HALO WARS LIMITED EDITION IS HARDER BUT I PERSONALY THINK BETTER THIS IS AN AWESOME PRODUCT AND WHOEVER PLAYS HALO PLAYS FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIFE ROCK ON HALO FREAKS!!!!! ;P
I find that the game is excellent for people who are die-hard Halo fans, or just the normal RTS player. It does take some time to get used to, however overal once you start playing you should enjoy it.
This is one of those games that you'll play and play and play. The campain verson of the game is good, even after you beat the game you can play against AI's in a you VS. the Game type mode. I enjoy the X-Box live version of the game the best. It's not your typical Halo first person shooter game, but if you like comand an concure you will love Halo Wars. GREAT VALUE. If you love the old board games like Risk, Axis and Allies, or even Stratigo and you have never given games like this a try, DO IT, you won't be sorry. I wasn't
I enjoy this game but I think it was hyped up way too much. I was thinking that it would be a really long game. The achements are not great. One of them is playing the game for 24 hours. Thats kinda saying if you want points you need to play this game and some people get a little carzy when it comes to gamerscore. Overall this is an ok game.
Not the best that they could have come out with but passable. The gameplay is smooth and the controls are simple. Overall a very good game but it doesn't really come close to the amazing draw of the Halo series. If you enjoy rts titles give it a try but wait for the price drop.
The biggest disappointment about this game is its length. 15 years ago Blizzard came up with Warcraft. There were 2 campaigns - Humans and Orcs. 10 years ago - Starcraft, 3 campaigns. 5 years ago - Warcraft 3 with 4 campaigns. This year 2009 Microsoft released Halo Wars with whooping 1 (one) campaign of about a dozen missions! What's up with that?! You create unfinished, unpolished, tiny game, throw it at the wall and expect people to shell out $60 for it because it is related to legendary franchise?! I paid $25 at a company store, and still feel like I overpaid. Now to gory details Pros: + It's about Halo + Awesome cinematics. + Great graphics for 2009 standards. It is 2009, you expect great graphics of an RTS. + Good controls. Work pretty well for a console. I was kinda missing ability to select all units of a given type, but it's OK. + You don't need to hunt for resources that quickly deplete. (do you see anything above that says $60?) Cons: - super-short. You beat it in 6 hours on Normal. For $60, I want to waste a couple of weeks of my time in front of my XBox! - Lack of thought-through design you see in Blizzard games. Forget the BS about paper, rock, scissors, most of the units there remain unused. You only build a couple of most efficient unit types unless you want to drag the game forever. - You are only able to build structures in the waffle, provided by the base. Seems like implementation-driven design, MS found it easier to do so. Forget about surrounding your base with custom ring of fortifications. - There is no dynamics of the unit types you can build. You can build them all from early levels up, but, I reiterate, you simply don't care.
I was personally, very much excited for this release, I downloaded the trailer from XBOX LIVE when it came out and was hooked and couldnt wait for more. Sadly My XBOX went nuts the eve of the release and I was not able to check this joint out until quite recently, which made the wait that much more unbearable. However, It wasnt as monumental as I thought it would be. The game plays much similar to many RTS's as far as the controls work. There is a campagin mode as well as some skirmish, and XBOX LIVE fun. The cut scenes, as always with the Power of the XBOX 360 are fantastic, and the characters are true to the quality of the Halo franchise, but I just wasnt all that impressed... Overall I would recomend this game to any Die hard Halo fans because it delves deeper into Halo EU that you havent seen before in the Hayday of the SPARTAN II project, but if youre thinking of getting a really cool RTS, I would go with C&C.
This is an average at best RTS game. This is not HALO 4 as many people are expecting it to be. The commercials on television are very misleading. I would expect many people to be genuinely upset after paying 60 bucks and it not being the game they expected. If you are a diehard HALO fan and are somewhat familiar with REAL TIME STRATEGY games than you should give it a try. If you are looking for a HALO fix HALO ODST is coming out later this year. It will be a first person shooter based in the HALO storyline. I hope this helps a few people from disapointment.
